I have a great 10 year old sister. But the only problem is that she is so self conscious about wearing shorts, skirts, bathing suits, etc. It's close to summer, so I suggest her wearing it. She said she doesn't like wearing them because her thighs are huge and fat. I didn't believe her. She told me she's disapointed about her inner thighs, and that it's embarrassing for a girl her age to have such big thighs. She's been comparing hers and her friend's and she's noticed hers are bigger. She's really tall for a 10 year old, 5 feet 2 inches, and she's great when it comes to physical activities. She complained to me and asked if I went through the stage she's going through. I said I didn't, and she was even MORE disapointed. I told her a kid her age shouldn't be so worried about her thighs, but she refuses. She wears jeans EVERY day to school, and she only wears shorts at home, because she says that's the only private place where no one can see her. Please HELP!~

You can advice her but don't push her too hard. I thk she's just going thru a phase. I'm sure once she becomes a teen, she'll wants to wear all those fasionable stuff n start wearing them. Tell her that diff ppl hav diff body shape. Her thighs might seem bigger because she's taller and healthier thn her friends. Sometimes its best to say thgs that would make her feel better instead of the truth.

I understand where shes coming from. Ive always been wide around the hips thighs and butt area. It hurts inside to know you dont measure up to other people standards...even if they really dont have any. We make up standard for ourselves and just assume every one else is thinking the same way. You could be an example to her in eating habbits and exercise. Encourage her in physical activity and healthy eating....dont point out the bad things...it just makes more pain inside.

i went through the exact same thing. Belive me, she'll grow out of it. She's beginning to hit puberty and she probably has a little bit of extra fat one her, but this will go away as she becomes a teenager. I use to wear baggy shirts, and just recently started wearing shorts because i hated my legs. Please be careful that she's eating properly because bad body image like this can sometimes lead to eating disorders....give her time and she should grow out of it, and be sure to complement her on her appearance and everything else as well to boost her confidence, hope i helped, goodluck, :)
