My phone line is being tapped?

Question

called the phone company....but (please read on), every time I call, my phone call is cut off. It did this earlier today when I was on a very important call, too.

The po-po say that it's the phone company's issue, not theirs, and that there is *nothing* they are able to do, as they have no equipment to do anything to check and find out.

ridiculous static, or distance when talking to people. The calls to my phone company would end with a "beep" (same as with the important call earlier), or distance to the point where the person I'm talking to can't hear me, then I can't hear them, and it sounds like someone's there, but there isn't. The biggest issue otherwise is the static.

It's the phone company's duty to inspect your line if it is tapped or not. If the tap is illegal, they should notify you and notify law enforcement to remove it. If it's legal though, they won't notify you.

A lot of people think when they hear clicks, voices, static, that they're being wiredtapped, but most wiretapping devices don't emit any audible noises. You might just be experiencing crosstalk, which is when your cordless phone picks up on other conversations, maybe your neighbors who are tuned to the same channel. If so, just notify your phone company and get it repaired.

Well, Most Likely A Stalker. Someone Probably Knows You And Can Tap Into Your Line To Do Whatever They Want. My Opinion Is To Not Use The Phone As Much If Not At All, Or Try Getting A New Phone And Only Tell The Number To Close Friends And Family. If It Still Happens After That, It May Be Someone You Know.

It sounds like you might have water in the lines somewhere. If the insulation is broken, then water will "short" the signal and can cause many different things to happen depending upon how good the short is in the connection. Another possibility is water at the terminals. In one of my old houses, water vapor would condense on the wall and on the phone jack terminals.

You should be able to check whether or not the problem is on your side of the lines or the phone company's side. Except on very old installations, there is a box on the outside of the house. There are two places to open the box. One requires special tools and is the phone company's responsibility. Leave that one alone. The other might use a nut driver or a screw driver to open and opens easily. Inside there is a phone jack. That jack goes to every line in the house and is the contact point for your lines into the house. Unhook your lines in the house. Then hook up a telephone outside and make and receive calls. If you still have trouble, then the lines outside the house are bad. The phone company should repair it at no cost to you. If you don't have any trouble, then the lines inside your house are suspect. You'll be responsible for cost and repair though the phone company will be happy to do this for you for a fee.

Sounds like a DSL filter or grounding problem, not your line being tapped. If it was truely tapped, trust me, you wouldn't even know it. When you finally get in touch with the genuises in your "local repair" section of your phone company, they are going to tell you to do a few things.

1. Unplug test. This is where you unplug all of your phones for 15 minutes and plug them back in. In more than 6 years, I have NEVER seen this fix a problem.
2. Take a CORDED telephone out to your phone box (also called a NID or Network Interface Device). You'll need to access it with a flat head screwdriver. Once inside, you'll see a phone jack. Unplug it and plug in your CORDED phone.

3. Make a test call and see if the same thing is happening. If it is, then there is a problem with the phone company, and they will have to fix it. If the problem is gone, then there is something wrong with the wiring inside your home.

If the wiring inside your home is bad, then you have a couple of options. Call a telephone contractor from the phone book, or contact your phone company to do the work. One thing you should find out about is if you have wiring insurance with the phone company, this could (potentially) save your hundreds. Feel free to contact me through Y!A if you need more help.

The first thing I would check is to make sure your filter on each phone for the DSL is a good one (if you don't have any extras you might want to invest in a new one even if it becomes your extra). 2nd thing is call the phone company from a different phone line, they can run tests on the line if you aren't on it. They'll be able to see if there is something going on. And of course have the technician come out if they can't see anything going on because there might be a short in the house somewhere. If your DSL is working fine I would think it's something to do with the filters.

Check to see if your phone co. has repair ticket available on line. I know I can report trouble online. Since you are having phone trouble this would be your best route or call them from your cell phone or a neighbor's home.

sounds like they spliced into your line with someone elses line so that when you are talking and the other person picks up the hang up on you.

call phone company and have them check your line. But you will need more than just the test they run over the phone and you will also have to pay for it.

All lines DSL do you have DSL filters? If not then you are the victim of the worst wire tapper ever a good tap will go unnoticed.
