Coke is the generic term for the fizzy stuff here!

* You are 100% Texan if you have ever heard this conversation: "You wanna coke?" "Yeah." "What kind?" "Dr Pepper!"

Pop. It gives the meaning of all pops. You see "Soda" isn't like Coke. Soda is what soothes you when you are sick. Coke, is the name of a pop. Pop for puts every carbonated drink in one catagory. Soda is just like you know flavored stuff, Cake is a type of Pop, and Pop is coke and soda and Pepsi. The only reason some people say Coke is the reason people say Kleene instead of face tissue. That is what a Kleenex is, but because they are the popular brand, that is what people say.

So I say "Want some Pop?" "What kind? Coke or Pepsi?"

-hope this helped. (It's a true Kanson thing!)

Pop, but I'm from Michigan. Occassionally I will say Soda, a habit I picked up from being around Southerners when I was in the Navy.

What I found funny is when I was in Florida, everything is considered a Coke regardless if that's what you want or not.

Growing up in the Midwest (Chicago area) we called it Pop. It was a huge debate going to college in Missouri whether it was Pop or Soda. People used to be so adamant that it was Soda and not Pop! Crazy thing to get so worked up over! Now, living in California, I call it Soda.

Soda in New Jersey, I've heard pop, but never coke unless a person meant Coca Cola.

I used to always call it "pop". My friend moved here from Maryland and always called it "soda". Since "pop" was the common term here, she started calling it "soda pop". Now...lol, I've adapted to "soda pop". But usually I just say "get me a coke"... says it all.. when I drink "soda pop", I drink Coke.
