No - for one thing I'm not selfish - one life is PLENTY enough. And two, the thought of LIVING FOREVER is terrifying and would make everyone end up feeling suicidal and even worse not being able to die anyway.

Also, have you ever read "Tuck Everlasting"? The Tuck family would never drink the water had they known its effect to cause eternal life.

If there is reason to believe that there is more to life than the life we live on this earth, then it would seem that, like it or not, each person's life continues after earthly death. It's not so much a matter of wanting eternal life, it's a matter of that's just how it is.

If that's "just how it is," then it would behoove a person to know as much about the next life as possible and to do what is necessary to be sure that eternal life is a happy one.

Christianity holds open the promise of eternal life in the presence of God, the Creator, who is the end and purpose for all human life. To see God face-to-face is the goal of Christianity and the source of eternal happiness. Believing that, why would not one want it. . . ??

I don't want the mansions mentioned in the bible, I'm an animal lover, so the concept of being able to pet a lion, tiger or wolf and feel no fear is something that really appeals t me. This is what I look forward to, though I knows its the 1,000 year reign of Christ, heaven has to be this good:

6 The wolf will live with the lamb,
the leopard will lie down with the goat,
the calf and the lion and the yearling [a] together;
and a little child will lead them.

7 The cow will feed with the bear,
their young will lie down together,
and the lion will eat straw like the ox.

8 The infant will play near the hole of the cobra,
and the young child put his hand into the viper's nest.

9 They will neither harm nor destroy
on all my holy mountain,
for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD
as the waters cover the sea.

I have not even thought much about eternal life! It is apart of his promise but their is so much more I cant even begin to explain. WOW, My personal relationship with Jesus is giving me eternal life along with so much more it is intense! I can only say I pray deeply for those who do not know him! I would have to be writing for days on end to tell you all he has done for me and give him all the praise I feel for him. Its a Jesus Thing!
So to ask me why I want eternal life Is like asking a addict why they are hooked on drugs it comes with a aw some life once you have open you're inner eyes and SEE their is no other way to live!!!

The thought of eternal life is terrifying. The notion of consciously existing, and being aware of that fact, year after year, century after century and so on with no end in sight makes me feel overwhelmingly freaked out. I want to live for a long time but I'm more comfortable with the thought that one day it will stop. Forever is forever - it's like reverse claustrophobia. Starting again...that's a different matter.

Eternal life is only good as long as I'm healthy enough to enjoy it. There are soo many things to do and see that I can't possibly do it all in one life time. It would just be nice to not have to worry about running out of time so quickly. 80 years goes by in a blink of an eye and not everybody gets that much time.

the bottom line is it doesn't matter what you or i want it's what we have in that respect! eternal life as you might think is not a choice it's what each of us have. the type of life you choose is up to you, good or bad. once a spirit has been created it can not be extinguished. it is eternal. the types of energies it attracts is up to you. you are a spirit that possess a soul which lives in a body. the body will die but the spirit and soul shall live on...

Because our real and eternal life with God trumps this one. I've experienced the eternity of God, and it makes me want to go back for good. I don't have a death wish, I hope to live a long and prosperous life, but this physical life seems almost too long to endure once you've experienced the true spiritual life. However, in spite of my spiritually wishing to return to God, I have love and responsibilities here, so I will remain in the love and happiness that is on this plane until it is my proper time to go.

I want to have eternal life because I want to live longer so that I can come true my big dreams on being a member of a band someday.

An interesting corollary of this question might be, "why do living things generally have such a desire for self-preservation, or in other words, why is there a survival instinct?" If nothing exists but matter and energy, what difference does it make if something lives or dies? Why should life have any inherent worth--after all, life is just an peculiarly more complex combination of atoms and molecules and nothing more, right? Why should an individual of a particular species be at all (even instinctively) interested in the survival of future individuals. From where does this desire receive its derivation?
