I wondering what job I should take. I plan on taking chef so I won't in the battlefield. I was also thinking of diver. I'm going Army and I will be an E-3 with four year of ROTC. I got a sheet with the things I can do. Which I told I could pick any job that I choose. I've always waned to be computer programmer, but I hate math, I can do fractions that's needed for the cooking. I heard there was some calculus in programing. I only studied enough math to remember it for the test. I had to re learn everything from scratch and it worked to my advantage. I restudied long division had a big division problem on my test. Think god I restudied the long division, PEMDAS,FOIL, fractions. That kind of stuff I still remember. I was wondering what kinda job you thinks I should take to keep me from having to fight in some gay *** war. I heard chef is my best pick. I've always wanted to be a chef anyway.

Sincerely,
DJ

A 69 is not a low score. it is a higher enough score that you should be able to do almost anything you would like, especially when it comes to the army. Pick a job that you are going to enjoy and do for a while since you can get trained for free and use it to your advantage. My husband is a cook in the Marines. Doesn't care for it very much, but if cooking is something you really enjoy then you can get some very good training and there are alot of job opportunities for when you get out. But don't that just because you are going to be a cook that you won't be deployed or see combat. because that is incorrect. there is no job that guarantees that. military can be a great choice.

A 69 on the ASVAB is not a low score, the national average on that test is roughly a 50. You should be qualified for approximately 185 of the 212 jobs available in the Army depending on your individual line scores. What I do not understand is why you would be asking other people what YOU should do in the Army. YOU are qualified to make your own decision on that topic! Do what your heart and mind tell you and make the choice yourself. Also have a backup plan ready, just because you may be qualified for a specific job, it may not be available at the time that you wish to enlist. If that is the case, choose something that will benefit you until you have the opportunity to change your career field (yes, you can change it later if you wish) (I myself have been Military Police, then Administration Specialist, back to Military Police and currently Recruiter).

Like others said; if you join the military you are going to have a very good chance of being in some combat situation, "chef" or not. I assume you meant 4 years of JROTC because ROTC is only at the college level and you would need more than grade school math (which you say is all you know) for that and it leads to a commission as a Lieutenant.

I certainly would not want you in any military unit I was assigned to with your attitude, maybe you should just consider McDonalds as a career.

Yes, a 69 is not to bad, but you have been sadly misinformed my friend. There is no non-combatants once you get down range. Mortar rounds hit anywhere, green zone don't mean safe pal. If you can't deal with the combat part then check out the Job Corps. They will train you in a skill and help you get a job after school. You may even qualify to get college through them. Everybody stands century duty at some point. My mechanics used to pull room clearing and building clearings. If you can carry a rifle (and you will) you get to help with convoy security. This is where most of the dieing happens cause that is where all those IEDs you see on the TV are at. Mortars are random and if you get a job as a Fobbit (one of those REMFs who never leave the FOB) then you still get hit by rockets and mortars. If you want safe stay here. If you are dedicated to the service of this nation join us. If you are not ready to pay the ultimate sacrifice to this nation then I have enough of you trying to get out of our next deployment. I don't mean to sound so negative, but this is not a job for the faint of heart and the business is serious. Those are real Americans spilling there blood with real bombs and bullets. If that is to much to deal with I do not belittle you are find fault. It is not a job that everyone can handle. No shame in that. Serious about the Job Corps, I think you have to be under 22 years old though.

Umm...Whatever job you take should not be in the U.S Military! That is the wrong kinda attitude joining up! I am actually in the Navy but have many friends in the Army, Marines, Air Force who would agree with me. It doesn't matter what your job is in the Army, Cook, musician, ect...your are going to war! Find a nice restaurant and cook your food there...that is the only place that would be safe for you! I really hope that you don't join, seriously! No matter what my personal opinion is about this war, I am proud to be in the military. I will fight hard for my country no matter how much I grumble underneath my breath....If you do join, remember, Its not like a regular civilian job where you can just quit if you don't like it. Once you sign your name, that is it!
Your in!
Besides, you actually sound too dumb to join! Which is actually pretty rare! LOL

kevw has been seriosly misinformed. you can still say what you want to about war and military when your in the service.

your not signing up for a communist country .

your score is pretty low, a cook is ok, but with such a low score the only other thing is infantry, you might be able to get into motorpool or carpentry or some other trade , but you have to make sure its on paper and signed. Never go open contract!! think of a good trade that you'd like to learn and go for it.

Everyone is a jerk. I think his GT score matters more then the AFQT score. Have him talk to a recruiter. Yes, 69 isn't a 99. But the average is a 50, so he is above average. Plus, I am sure he qualfies for a lot of jobs, just not every job.

Hi,DJ.When you are in basic training you will be put through an intensive remoulding of who you used to be.You may look the same but thats where it stops. You will have no choice unless you cant cut it,they do a number on you that will remain in your head for the rest of your life. You will no longer talk the same,or think the same. When you reach this point your outlook of life will be vastly different.Make your decision then, not now.

why are you joining the military in a time of war if you don't want to fight?

they can throw you in jail if you talk like that once you sign the paper work. the government ownes you and you have no right to speak out anymore

If you are afraid of ever being in a battlefield situation you shouldn't go in any of the Services. No one wants to be in that situation, but it does happen! I would not want to have you backing me up in a situation like that! Think of a different carreer path.
