Antal Vestergom arrived at Ellis Island on Apr 07, 1914 after leaving Bremenhaven. But he was deported on arrival. He declared that he was heading for Bridgeport CT where his uncle lived. He was from the town of Bakonykopany, Hungary.

This is the closest I can come to the information you posted. You don't give her first name, so I don't have a second field to search from. But let me know if it's her and I'll do what I can to find more.
Margarethe Westergom Pfreimd, Germany 1922 34

Go to: http://stevemorse. org and see if you can do a search via his one-step system. It gives you the ability to change spellings, etc. In some cases you can just search the first letter in a last name and limit the hits via ancestry being checked, such as: Italian or Hebrew or ???, gender, approximate arrival, etc.

There are a LOT of transcription errors on the Ellis Island Database, so, you have to think out of the box a bit.

Also, as pointed out are you positive that they arrived via NY? There are a variety of ports plus some folks entered via Canada or Mexico.

If you give us a bit more info. I would get there are some folks here who would try to play around a bit and help you on your search.

To limit the time frame a bit, you could try using info. acquired from the U.S. Census as there is generally a question asking for year of arrival. It may not be an accurate year, but you can add a year or two to each side when doing a search. Sinc e you seem to have access to ancestry. com , you should try to find the censuses for her, if you have not done so, yet.

If you decide to add info. you can edit your question or add to your question.

Good luck on your task....

I think if someone reads the fine print, ancestry's source are NY passenger lists. There are MANY other places they could have entered at.
Have you tried verifying ALL later records? ie obituary, social security, whether or not they were naturalized? census?
Or.. try reposting the question, with grandma's name as you know it, and approximate time she did come to the US (and your source for that info). Let someone take a stab at finding her for you.
