Are newer Jaguars still unreliable like the old ones..... Does the saying "you need 1 jag to drive and 1 jag in the shop" saying still exist? I am looking to buy a like 2000 jag but dont want to take the risk of it always being broken down because I know its goen to be costly repairs.

I think they've improved in the last decade but they still rank low in the Consumer Reports reliability surveys. The X-type and S-type both rate "much worse than average" and the XJ-series is "worse than average".

But that doesn't necessarily mean they're unreliable. I think it's fair to say that cars have overall become more reliable over the years, so something now rated "worse than average" may very well have been considered "average" or "above average" (who knows, maybe even "well above average") 10-15 years ago.

ford has owned jaguar since 1991...they've also introduced more reliable technology to the vehicle... if you're really worried about having a good car, try BMW, Audi, or even merc...
