In proverbs when it is speaking of a virtuous woman it speaks of her household being clothed in scarlet. I understand that to be a protective thing. If you are in a sand storm or a snow storm for that matter it is much easier to see someone who is wearing red. So I would say indirectly protection, and that would go along with the Chinese prosperity. In many cultures and lines of thought it is seen as a power color.

the bible goes more by what numbers mean,for example the number 7 means or relates perfection......... the words that jesus spoke are sometimes written in red(depending on the bible version...). this is more to highlight the words he spoke,not to have any meaning such as luck or prosperiety. hope this helped.
