You can very easily get a lower back strain. I have done it many times.

Ice it down for the first 24 hours, then use a heating pad after that.

You may want to see a doctor for a muscle relaxant.

You can also ask for a pain killer, but they'll usually just give you prescription strength ibuprofen (800mg).

I'd like to comment a little more on your injury, since this has happened to me on several occassions. For someone who weighs 205 lbs, squatting 195-205 is not "going to hard". (I squatted >405 lbs back when I weighed 205 lbs). Yes, correct form is important and is often a cause of injury. However, even following correct form will not compensate for a weak midsection.

Think about it this way. You weigh 200 lbs. For argument's sake, we'll say your body weight is evenly distributed between your upper body and lower body. So, your upper body (chest, back, shoulders, etc) weighs 100 lbs. This weight is supported by your mid section (your abdominal muscles, your obliques and your lower back muscles). When you are standing and even when you are sitting, your midsection is working to support this load.

When you put 200 lbs. on your shoulders to squat, you have effectively tripled the load on your entire midsection. Under these circumstances, it is very easy for a weak part of your midsection to give out due to the extra load, resulting in an injury to your back.

Remember, the midsection encompases abs, obliques and lower back. I always have trained lower back (such as doing hyper-extensions while holding a 35 lb. plate). But, I have also often been negligent with training my abdominal muscles. So, even though my lower back was strong, having weak abdominal muscles, I believe, contributed to the injuries I sustained when squatting. And, I have even managed to hurt my back when doing light squats, so it was not the weight that mattered so much as my having weak abs.

Your asking a lot of excellent questions however lamentably no person on here can give you the solutions you want. You have got to see a health care professional. When you did tear a muscle that is going to take some critical time to heal. If and when you do carry again you ought to have any one watch your form and aid you out that could be a experienced lifter. Squats are a high-quality carry and can give giant enhancements but when finished wrong may also be devastating. You may also want to work on a leg press once your leg heals. The shape is so much less complicated to get down and it can give an identical outcome.

pulling a muscle is considered an injury the fact that u were squatting about ur same weight is just asking for an injury my best bet is that too much of the weight went towards one side of ur body and u tried to balance it out with a quick jerk and definitely that would explain ur injury but if that's not the case a nerve could have pinched in between ur scapula and ur ribs so it's not really registering the pain all the time ergo the shoots of pain every now and then go see a doctor u could have a muscle spasm

See how you feel tomorrow, worst case is you injured your back and knee and you might not be able to lift heavy for a long time (months). If you feel fine tomorrow then the next time you do squats you should work the weight up, start slow and be sure you didn't injure yourself. Please do not under any circumstance attempt to "work threw the pain" you could end up with a permanent injury and might never be able to squat again.

my guess is that you we using improper technique... because you wouldn't have hurt yourself if were squatting correctly... either way, you should wait and see if the pain goes away, but if it doesn't then go and see the doctor because you could have injured your back and my need medical care.
