I have adopted a few weeks ago and have never had a ***** before only dogs. Can anyone tell me at what age do they stop having seasons, or do they have them all their lives? The reason I ask is that Poppy is a rescue dog and we are not sure how old she is, only that she is roughly 8 or 9 years. Is it worth getting her spayed or are her seasons numbered?

The only way for her to stop going into heat is to have her spayed. If she is healthy, her age is no reason whatsoever to not spay her. See your vet, get her examined and have bloodwork done. If she is healthy, get her spayed. She will be much better off for it...and so will you!

Spay your dog. Even at that age there are medical reasons to spay. Leaving the dog intact is only exposing it to possible medical problems that in the end will cost much more than a simple spay procedure.

Dogs like humans do hit menopause. The breed of the dog helps to determine it life expectancy, which in turn helps to determine the length of their fertility. I would take her to or call a vet and ask what breed she, how long she should live and how long she should be fertile. If her fertility is 1 year or less I would not spay her. If it is more, the health advantages are well worth it.

Most females stop around 10 years of age; however, one of the main reasons for getting a dog spayed is to help prevent cancer. You might want to discuss it with your vet before deciding. How many years she's likely to have left is also dependent on what breed she is.

You need to ask the vet especially if you are not sure of the dogs age.
