Your dog is ticked at you for making him pee in a litter box like a freakin cat!!!
And have you tried to potty train him for outside, that would be great for him.

Teach the dog to go outside. It's not hard, I've never heard of a dog that used a litter box.

Wash the spots where he has peed with a vinegar and soap solution so that he can't smell where he has peed. If he starts to pee on the carpet, put him in a contained area outside or take him for a walk on a leash or a tie out.

Scold him when he pees on the carpet and either let him out or put him in his cage. Make sure he can get to his box to pee first.

If He is older and just started to do this recently Take him to the Vet to get checked.
He Might Have a Bladder infection. They tend to do that when they have 1 .. Its like they are trying to tell you. If he does not have a bladder infection He might just be Marking his territory. I had this problem with my dog He was just marking. The vet said It was Nature to him and to Just tell Him no and Put him outside. Then Praise him when He does go outside. Harsh punishment Does not work. Because In their mind they are doing what they are supposed to do by nature...

rip out the carpet on matter what you clean it with the dog can still smell it there. rip out the carpet and seal the floor with oil base paint and then put down laminate flooring and that will stop that issue

I am confused on where you want him to go. Put teach him a potty cue like "Go Potty!" or "Hurry up!"

If you catch the dog while he is urinating tell him, "NO! Go -insert cue- -insert place(like 'outside')" and set him where you want him to go potty; whether it is outside or in his litter box.

When my puppy piddles on the floor I tell her, "NO ATHENA! You go potty outside!" and set her in the grass. Potty is her cue, and I want her to go outside. Do you get it? It is sort of confusing. :)

Also, make sure to buy a cleaner that has live micro-organisms like Nature's Miracle. They are found at most stores and Pet stores.
Good luck!
