The Religious Radical Right (only 5% of Americans, but a very noisy (and noisome) five percent) is comprised of pseudo-Christians and deluded low-IQ Christians who were conned and organized into a political entity by Jerry Falwell and his ilk. They've wrecked the Republican Party, and their hateful and obnoxious agendas threaten the individual freedoms of tens of millions of Americans. They seek to FORCE millions of women (over time) to gestate UNwanted pregnancies to term against their will -- a very real, 9-month-long form of rape. They oppose legal gambling whenever they can, and seek to censor the Internet, radio, TV, and the print media every chance they get. They are especially mindless toward GLBT folks, even though gays are just like everyone else with the sole exception being their choice of partners. (NO big deal.) The RRR wants to restrict their housing and work opportunities, and fights same-sex marriage, which is harmless? How can they be such bigots? No lives??

There can be such bigots for any number of reasons. Some are taught those things from childhood by parents, some teachers, and some church schools. It is difficult for anyone to reject what they were trained to believe is true and the will of God, and there is fear that if they do reject the teachings, they will be punished for all eternity.

Some, having heard those things, have a sense that not all of it is true, but they don't have the interest or perhaps the wherewithal to investigate and hear what others might say. It is easier to listen to those "in authority" such as pastors, deacons, other religious believers; consequently, they turn over their consciences to such people and just accept what they have to say.

Some have the perception that this is what society at large holds to be true. If they might have an inkling that at least some of the concepts are not true, they are afraid to speak out because of what others might say. They don't want to be ostracized or though to be different from "everyone else."

Some sincerely believe even after investigating for themselves that these are the most truthful, God-willed responses to situations. But they fail to understand that everyone must approach God and morality from their own spiritual and conscientious gifts, and their responses might be sincerely different. Not understanding that, or not wanting to understand that, they refuse to let others have the freedom to believe as they wish.

Some believe that the U.S. was founded on Christian principles -- "Christian" being synonymous with their own interpretation of Christianity.

Some think they themselves are God's Chosen. That gives them a unique perspective -- read "pride" -- that sets them as leaders for everyone else and the bringer of salvation to all. It takes a good deal of humility to have that perspective of one's own views and yet have no trouble in letting others of a different viewpoint have the freedom to follow their own beliefs and consciences.

That's something of my take on the issues.

Vulnerability. They are vulnerable to demi-gods. Try to have compassion for their delusions, even as you gently point out that they are making a mockery of the old line that God is Love.

And your little triad here is kind, gentle and loving?

Although I am glad to see that you believe "gays are just like everyone else with the sole exception being their CHOICE of partners." (emphasis of YOUR word is mine)

You wasted a lot of time on that question. No use tearing down Christians of any kind. You should join them. If you join them, you can tell them to be more tolerant in person.
