I've seen it on TV and it looks like it would be cool to look around or get a tour.

I can't answer the part about getting a tour, but you can see quite a lot from outside the area.

When you drive through Mojave, CA on "the 14" northbound from the LA area, you will turn right at a traffic light most of the way through town. Just a very short distance away you begin to see the tie down area where all these mothballed aircraft are. We've parked along side the road there a number of times -- there's any number of places to park in the desert from old abandoned places to just tire tracks in the road. (In fact, just after you turned at the light there's a Stater's grocery store with a parking lot as well.) You could walk around the perimeter area and see fairly well.

By the way -- they actually move the aircraft around fairly frequently. I'm told one reason is to keep the tires from deforming too much. As usual, everything is tied-down, but even more important with the frequent heavy wind gusts heading into the Mojave desert here. Everything is basically pointed to the west into the wind!

One more "by the way": when SpaceShip One was really in the news there were a number of photos and videos posted in which you could see the surrounding area, not only including the moth-balled aircraft, but also the frequent freight trains and even some of the windmills up near Tehachapi.

I can't be sure, but I have driven by it and seen some type of signs for it before, which would make me think there is something you can do out there. Did you look it up online?
I found this place in Arizona-http://www.pimaair.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=48&Itemid=232

http://www.airliners.net/discussions/general_aviation/read.main/1344500/ this site has a bunch of posts about different places, the search engine listed the mojave one but I didn't have time to look through it all.

I like the old ship yards... they look so ghostly and awesome sitting out there!
lol TedEx, they are pretty dang creepy, especially the way they move in the water, it's like they have a life of their own.
