At the University of Iowa, Bono said, "We don't have to guess what is on God's mind here. It bewilders me that anyone can call themselves followers of Christ and not see that AIDS is the leprosy spoken about in the New Testament. God is at work here."

The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written:
"The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor."
Luke 4:17-19, (from Isaiah 61:1,2)

Well, let's remember what the word prophet means. Old Testiment prophets comminicated on a 2-way basis with God. He put the words in their mouths and the desire in their hearts. For nearly 30 years, Bono has written songs that in one way or another were inspired by God... either through Biblical passages or through Bono's own walk with God as a Christian. He then communicates his beliefs very fearlessly to politicians, world leaders, religious leaders and other powerful figures in order to achieve a more livable planet.

I think that Bono is a very good example of what Christianity should be and often times isn't. When the secular world hears the word "Christian" they usually cringe at the thought of this judgmental person condemning the world to hell for their unforgivable sins. Christ didn't preach judgment. He preached mercy and grace and love and kindness and most importantly, generosity. Bono personifies these qualities. He doesn't care if some people want to dismiss him and insult him for being involved. He doesn't care if his charitable work hurts his recording career. He cares about doing what's right because he feels God has instructed him to do so.

In short, if he's not a prophet, he's still the closest thing we have to one...

No.

He is just someone who cares about others and cares about what our children will inherit.

This is partially because he is a good Christian, and believes that the words attributed to Christ about helping others and being kind are a good way to live.

That all Christians could be this way.

If by prophet, you mean the lead singer of U2, then yes he's a prophet. Otherwise, no he is just a normal guy that has his own little theories.
