Cut your food up into small bites. Then, chew your food thoroughly. Instead of gulping it all down, savor each flavor. Stop when you realize that you're full and either have the waiter take the rest away or put your plate away from you so you can't stop picking at the food. The biggest way I lost weight was by taking my time eating the food and not eating when I wasn't hungry.

Try to eat low-GI foods (such as diet yoghurt, lean meat, legumes and pulses) so you feel full for longer and are less inclined to overeat. Also try drinking a lot of water with your meal so you feel fuller quicker, and take a break for 10 mins or so halfway through, only go back and eat the rest if you truly still feel hungry (listen to your body).

I also found cutting out starchy carbs (like potatoes, pasta, white bread and white rice) helped me, but if you do that make sure you get plenty of fibre from sources such as fruit and vegetables.

Good luck!

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)
