People seem to think that being an atheist means you believe in nothing. Believing in nothing is nihilism. Being an atheist - at least these days when philosophy is no longer really relevant - means you're smart enough to reject the notions that mainstream religions use to convince their followers. That the Earth was magicked into existence, that you can't possibly have sex before you're married into the church, that being a good Christian (for example) means you'll be rewarded when you die. When you die, YOU'RE DEAD. We live on a ball of rock. There are over a billion Hindus in India, are they all going to hell because they believe in the 'wrong religion'? No, they're not. Heaven and hell were created so that people don't feel nervous about death and so they behave while they're alive. I'm an atheist and I'm very spiritual - I believe in morality, and in all the mysterious forces (some of them scientific) that govern the Earth. I even pray to them, there's nothing wrong with praying. But I will never believe in an organised religion that was invented as a means of controlling people. I do my thinking for myself.

Some find solace and peace in prayer. It is their way to communicate their feelings, thoughts and actions to their higher power or "God". Some pray that others will find their own peace and solace. It is a very individual process which has no right or wrong form except maybe in church when everyone prays together. You should not feel angry or hateful towards people that only mean to express concern or kindness to you in the form of prayer. Just because it makes no sense to you right now doesn't make it bad or wrong. Just as your atheist beliefs don't make you a "bad" person. Best wishes.

Well I don't think that it's possible to pray for a soul, you make your soul choice and then if you chose to deny Jesus died for you then I don't believe that my prayers for you would do any good. It's a nice thought but it has to do with free will and you cannot ask God to change someones free will choice. It goes against him. So I would only pray in hopes that somewhere down the line you get a clear presentation of the gospel. That is about all I can do. Prayers for athiests don't go as far as the ceiling in my opinion. I respect your request and will honor it as I don't believe it'd do any good.

I don't pray either. Although I am not an atheist (agnostic), I do believe in god, but have a hard time with organized religion. Makes me feel all stifled... I knew as a young child it was not for me, religion that is. But to the point, you will always have people shoving religion and their beliefs down your throat... if it's not god... it's marriage... or children... etc. So the disease of inacceptance is everywhere. Welcome to a self-righteous hypocritical world :-(
PS. Although, I have found many people who are accepting and open... breath of fresh air they are... so a shout out to those individuals!!!

I pray because morally, it is the right thing to do. I pray to thank God for my family, health, and everything He has given us. I also pray to ask him to help out when someone I know is in need, and to ask for forgiveness. I believe, however, it is very important to pray regularly and not just when you're in need.

Atheist one who believes that there is no deity. So you do believe in something. I believe that if you are on this web site you are here for a reason I can not make you believe in our Christ and savior. But you know what Christ did not come to save the saved he came to save the unsaved That would be 100 % of all non believers
We Pray for you because as said before you come on this site for some reason and that would make one believe that you are looking for something
That is why we pray for you as I will now
Dear Father we pray for this young lady, We thank you Lord for her being a atheist Lord, because Lord we know that her salvation will bring glory to your holy name. Lord we thank you for her enterest in your Holy Name lord because we know Lord that salvation will set her free of the bondage that has grasp her. Lord we thank you Lord that when this young lady has accepted you as her savior, She will bring many to your Holy Name
In these things we pray Amen and Amen

Well If you are an Atheist why would it matter if people pray for you or not. They would be wasting their time, not yours. Just a observation.

How does someone help you when there is nothing to show for it?? Not to be disrespectful. I believe there is a God, don't get me wrong. I don't view God the way others do. I think being a good person should be enough to proof myself to God.
F*ck the nay sayers they don't mean a thing.. -311
