This weekend I am going on a church retreat where we are going to water ski and stuff.

I've never done it before, so are there any simple tips that may help at least a little bit?

Thanks SO Much! (I do snow ski though)

There are many things that will help you get up on the water. Here are six easy steps.

Step One: Put the tips of the skis out of the water, when you get up you want to keep the tips up out of the water.

Step Two: Lean back in the water and put the rope between the 2 skis.

Step Three: Put your behind on the back of the skis behind the bindings(where you put your feet.)

Step Four: Put the skis together. (there are skis for beginners where there is a bar or rope holding the skis together.)

Step Five: Bend Your knees.

Step Six: Let the boat pull you up. (When or if you get up balance is key.)

Something else that will help you is when you get up go down in to a crouching position and then when you think you are good enough to stand up stand up.

Hope I helped. Let me know if I did.

Water skiing is very different than snow skiing because you are basically level while on the water, and snow skiing you are on a hill.

**REMEMBER ALWAYS WEAR A LIFE JACKET (PFD 2 or 3) WHILE DOING ANY WATER SPORTS**

The hardest part is getting out of the water.
Keep your skis together, knees bent, say in position like you are sitting in chair but tilted back to 45 degrees.
Let the boat pull you up. Do not bend over at the waist as the boat pulls you.
Closely watch some others who can get up on the skis.
Try it a few times, say 3 or 4. If it does not work, take a break and try it again in a few minutes. Better not to get too tired.
If you fall down, let go of the tow line.
Be safe, always wear a properly secured life jacket.
DO NOT ever get in or out of the boat if the engine is running. If it is a jet boat without a propeller that might be OK.
Do not jump off the side of the boat into the water.

Do NOT dive head first into lake water, even in the middle of the lake. You can do a flat swimmers dive, but head first dives into lake water is a leading cause of broken necks. Sand bars, debis, stumps, etc can be 2 or 3 feet below the water.
Have fun
