Music and acting. Hmmmmm. Apples and oranges, dude. I can only speak from the acting angle. First, and don't do anything until, you need to find a tax preparer that specializes in the entertainment field. For me, I am able to write off a number of things that most people take for granted. Cable, Internet, DVD players, mileage to studios, costumes that I use only for acting yet have to buy, headshots and their reproductions, stamps, envelopes, entertainment for schmoozing. There's lots of stuff. But you need an entertainment tax specialist to help you wade through it. By the way, his services are also tax deductible on next years return. Be careful. Be legal. Don't try to screw the IRS. They know more about that than you do.

It's all about who you know and how much they believe in you. Try to attend all the art shows, music festivals, whichever venue you are into, and start meeting people. Lots and lots of people.
