My dad cares more about the dog than me...I think!!?

Ok, so my dads gf has a dog, and lately I've been feeling like my dad cares morea bout this stupid dog than about me, all he talks about is all the dog is great and very behaved. I'm thinking, I don't care! So, by the way...I have told my dad what I feel about the dog, and he told me that he loves me more, but I don't believe him, also my dad and his gf broke up last week, so I think that he's using the dog as a memory "holder" for the time when he and his gf were together, and that makes me mad. So, I'm watching the dog, and my dad told me over the phone to let it out of its crate, and I'm not goin to! I hate the dog. Is this okay feelings to have? What should I do?

I'm a guy ppls!! And my dad is to nice, he is taking care of the dog because the ex is on a trip( I think my dad is way to nice to people) I'm 13 by the way

I just really don't like this dog...... I pushed it off the bed

Your going to be cruel to a helpless animal because your angry at your dad? Your dad just broke up with his g/f.How would you feel if you just broke up with your b/f?Did he train the dog?Maybe he is proud of something he accomplished if it is well behaved.Are you well behaved?Be honest.I bet if your dad had to choose between you and the dog he would DIE for you hon.Go visit some kids who have never seen their dads or their dad's never visit them and then complain about how bad he is.

Parents are allowed to have adult relationships apart from their children, whether it's the mother or a girlfriend. Were you jealous of the girlfriend, too? The dog is something they cared about together. You can't take your feelings out on the dog. If you could learn to like the dog, it would probably bring your dad around. The feelings then might switch to you and your dad sharing the dog instead of the old girfriend. The dog could be a great companion for you, it you let it.

I understand how fustrating it is to feel as though you're not getting enough attention from a parent. Your father probably is holding onto to the dog as a memory of his girlfriend. Just think about how much he's hurting. Maybe instead of being mad at the dog for giving your dad love, you should spend some quality time with him. Dogs are so loyal and loving. This is probably why your dad is attached to the dog. Give your dad a hug or have a long talk with him. Tell him how you REALLY feel. Do it in a calm sophisticated manner. Trust me, it works. Hey,you might just end up loving the dog.

I think its ok for you to be a little upset. But, dont take it out on the dog because the dog didnt do anything to you. Your dad is going through a rough time with a break up and Im sure some day you will understand that. Just know that no matter how he acts he loves you more and just might not be able to show it right now.

I don't blame you for feeling the way you do. It often is easier to show affection to animals than it is to people. Please don't take it out on the dog. Don't hate the dog; treat the dog nicely and let it out of the crate. It isn't the dog's fault just the same as it is not your fault the way your dad behaves.

It is ok for you to have the feelings you do. I am happy you talked to your dad about them.
