omni=endlessly, infinitely; benevolent = looks for the kindest or most merciful solution.
why doesnt he just end their existance instead of tourturing them?
and please note that i said 'why?', so do not answer with "god never terminates his creations". i am asking why
Question 2, would you rather cease to exist, or burn in hell for eternity?

chess199...:
the problem with that metaphor, judges and penelties for crime exist in our world so that people wont do it again. there is no 'next time' in hell.
ok here is a metaphor, if god is a judge, he sentances people to life in prison over jaywalking, i think this is a more fitting metaphor if any.

God is merciful to those He wishes to show mercy.
On the rest He demonstrates His absolute unwavering justice.
That is why there is an eternal Hell.
In the judgment of the all-wise, all-knowing and all-just God, that is exactly what men deserve.
I did not always see things this way, but after more than half a century observing the conduct of men, I concur with His judgment.

Here's my advice. Read the book "Mere Christianity" by C. S. Lewis. (The guys who wrote Narnia)
Ok. Well, here's an analogy. Lets say theres a judge (for arguments sake, this judge makes the final decision on all trials), who aquited everyone who walked into the court room. Petty thieves, sexual offenders, murderers, bad comedians, the lot. Would he be considered the most benevolent judge ever? No, he'd lose his job quickly. God needs to be perfectly fair too, which isn't always the same as perfectly nice.
"God does not condemn us, we stand condemned already"
This is the alternative: At anytime, no matter what, before you die, God can and will forgive your sins. There's really not a more mericful solution than that.

The cross is the kindest and most benevolent solution.
He saved me, inspite of my sin. He took the penalty. I bear no penalty, except what man metes out for my sin.
Instead, God has given me the ability to store up treasure of blessing for the age to come.
How much more do you need?
God is also absolutely righteous and just judge of the universe. He has given humanity the choice. The punishment of hell was never intended for humanity, but for the rebel angels.
This is why Christians have given their mortal lives willingly to give this message for you over the ages. It's important!!
TEK
The fallacy you have missed is that the sin of mankind is in no way equivalent to jay walking. Sin is evil and destructive, and is the realm of God's arch enemy. If you want to be upset with someone, pick Adam, or Satan.
God's team is working to save folks from that Hell.

A loving God is likewise a God of justice and holiness. undesirable angels and human beings whose attitudes against God will by no potential substitute have a place that doesn't have God's love or mercy in it. that's by using God's justice based on the innovations that have been made via undesirable human beings.. In human society maximum civilizations have a justice equipment that incorporates a reformatory structures for persons whose attitudes will by no potential substitute against society the two. to illustrate I watch this technique Bait automobile on television and different shows the place criminals are caught. maximum persons of them are repeat offenders or maybe committing distinctive crimes from those they dedicated interior the previous. Their hearts by no potential substitute mutually as in reformatory yet oddly sufficient in basic terms made it worse. Does this help reason you realize God and why hell is there for a reason. It recognizes the reality that unrepentant beings will by no potential substitute no rely if or no longer they stay in a unfastened international or are in reformatory. And this ...nicely. that's form of frightening to think of roughly. a minimum of God knows approximately this and created a separate place for them. Later.

If God created all things that means he created the devil who according to the bible was the most beautiful creature in heaven and the very likeness of God. But why would a supreme being create something so much like him and not know it would eventually want to take his place.

because he's giving them a choice:to follow him and live in heaven or make a stupid choice and not follow and end in hell. It's everyone's own choice. A lot will regret theirs.

it's impossible to cease to exist. we're beings, and God is a being. God can't end, so we can't end.
