I used to believe it based on assumption... from what I was taught as a child. As an adult I set out to prove the validity to myself and found that while the wording has been very carefully preserved for generations, there is little corroborating evidence.
I've come to believe that some of it is truth, and much is parable in which you can find great truths and life lessons. I also see that parts are heavily influenced by the views of the writers, society and times.
What causes you to believe it as absolute truth? Is it a feeling? Is it trust in those who taught you? Have you seen some evidence that I'm unaware of?

For me it because apostle's testimony of the life, miracles, teachings, death and resurrection of Christ is convincing to me as a valid historic account. The miracles Christ did affirm the message.

no no and no . You are about to embark on the most interesting journey of your life . You should pick up a NIV then read it from cover to cover . each time you find any word or place that you don't know what it means go to the internet and look it up .It will really open your eyes . The other Bibles are too difficult to understand , it's not a bunch of parables it's very specific and concise . for instance did you know that the garden of eden was located in the place now known as Iraq ? I didn't either - then I read the Bible . If you were going to read a Steven King novel would you grab a page in the middle , read it then grab another page somewhere else ? How could you ever understand the story if you read it like that ? Unfortunately that's how most people have been taught to read the Bible . Each book in the Bible is based on the the information that was in the previous book . You can't possibly understand what is being said if you don't read it the way it was meant to be read .It only took me 3 months ,a couple of hrs each night . The wonder of the internet has made it possible to look up every place and every word . I learned so much about our history and the history of the world , and yes you can look up that stuff to see if it's validated by historians and other books .Look up everything . You'd be astounded by the temples when you start looking up the meanings of the given designs and measurements .It was huge and the water features around it were incredible . swimming pools all around and waterfalls which were fed by underground springs . hot tub type pools also for the priests to bathe in before they went inside . If you read it you will develope an interest in archaeology as you watch more and more physical proof being unearthed of the places and things that happened in the Bible . We live in a truly wonderful time . The information is available for all those who want it , and I believe you do . Good luck sweety and God bless you .

The bible was inspired by God and written by like 40 different men over thousands of years yet it still all works in perfect harmony. is that alone not a miracle and at least a good enough reason to look into it further.
If you do not beleive the bible is in harmony then you were being taught by someone who didnt know about the bible. you can find out more by checking out the this link. keep an open mind and dont judge too soon :)

Lumping ALL Christians into your rant is irresponsable and defamatory and argumentative at perfect.. ALL christians are unlike that... some are confident. some are basically enthusiastic and that i think of a few non belivers take any talk of Chritianity as an attack and bypass on the shielding havining to purpose to debunk them with the aid of fact they experience threatened with the aid of fact their particular argument does not carry water. observe I stated some. some Christians are narrow, conceited, and ignorant.... some atiests, agnostics are too. The bible does not carry forth which you're an enemy.. it basically states which you're a non believer and you will spend eternity deperated from god.. that's what hell potential.. Heaven potential an eternity with god. whats up, in case you opt for for that an eternity without god is what you desire then it fairly is your decision. each and every decision has a consequense good or undesirable. it is your concept which you think of christians experience they're greater suitable.. and a few christians could tout that yet that doesn't propose it somewhat is a fact. it is an opinion. So.. there to procure an smart (my opinion) non slamming answer from a Christian :)

Prophecies written, then happened.
Several prophecies that happened and
yet to happen.
Like a horse race if number 7 always comes out because of his great track
record hes gonna be a favorite.
The bible is based on eternity everything
from burning in hell to being with him.
And even as we are alive on this planet we
are taught things based on eternity and not
of the world because the world system itself
maybe longer than our lifetimes but not longer than eternity.

The bible teaches the long haul.

ok my friend, some point in time i was the same as u.well, almost same cuz i was in search of truth.as i grew up into adulthood i started wondering that maybe the ppl of other religion think the same of me that we thought of others i.e.the unfortunate ppl,not on right path, will not go to heaven.
should i b following a particular religion just because my parents followed it?wat if they themselves r not on right path and just following wat their parents followed?imagine if u were born in hindu family then u would b a hindu if u followed blindly wat ur parents taught u.
i strongly disagree that going in deep research u may become an athiest.i myself hav gone into deep research and am not.
i was born muslim but as i grew up i started research to find the truth.i have read hindu, jewish, christian, sikh, parsi etc scriptures.
i also read quran(muslim scripture).
the conclusion:
there is no scripture on the face of the earth that doesnot contain scientific errors and contradictions EXCEPT QURAN.
these errors and contradictions cannot be attributed to God;these scriptures maybe the word of God but they r corrupted.for e.g. it is said in vedas(hindu) and bible that the earth is flat and many a time the verses of same scripture also contradict.
if u dont believe me i will give u the quotations that go against science and contradict.and this is the proof.
i also challenge every human on earth that he cannot pick out a single scientific mistake or contradiction in quran.
thus,i was converted from a muslim to a true muslim.
and i am happy that i could benefit someone from my research.
u can also contact me at adnantariq7@yahoo.com
hope that answers your question.

The Bible is the word of God of course every one knows that silly. It is the absolute word of God and those who deny one word or punctuation mark are going straight to Hell. God knew what he was doing when he sat on that big boulder and typed the whole thing out for you and me. BB

Faith in Christ which the Holy Spirit gives me, because without faith "the size of a mustard seed", one cannot understand God's word as living and true.

Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, "Jesus is accursed"; and no one can say, "Jesus is Lord," except by the Holy Spirit." I Cor. 12:3

Yes, blind trust in those that taught you. AKA Brainwashing. None of it is real. Be careful, if you do too much research and studying, you will end up an atheist.
