He's been lickin ghis "du-claw" (Not sure of the spelling) all day. I've just looked over it and the skin has split and is almost off of it. It's red & swollen. What can I do to make it stop hurting for him?

I would say the best thing is to take your dog to the vets.
more than likely it was caught on something and was torn. This is the reason a lot of breeders have dew claws removed.
The vet may suggest removing the dew claw you may want to ask how much the other one would cost to be removed since the dog would already be under anesthesia. This is a common problem with dew claws.
if you can't get to the vets just keep it clean and you could use triple antibiotic ointment to help fight infection.

Sounds like it could be infected. The correct spelling is Dew Claw by the way! Just wanted to let you know. Anyway this sounds like the reason that lots of breeders get their puppies' dew claws removed. Take him to the vet to get him some antibiotics that will help him fight infection. He may need to have it removed. Please just talk with the veterinarian. Good luck!

It probably got caught on something and started tearing off. I would take him to the vet so they could remove it under anesthesia and possibly give some pain killers. Your dog is obviously in pain. Maybe you could have the other one removed too to avoid another incident.

Try to wrap it up (without getting bitten because of the pain) then take him to the vet and have them spray on a clotter or fake skin and let them re-wrap it to heal. Sometimes, they can get cuts by overexcessive biting (from fleas) Or just stepping on a rough surface constantly.
