Since babies take a sitting position in them

Most babies are more in laying down position or a reclined position until they are a year and face forward. I think an accident with a baby not in car seat is far more dangerous for the child than being in a car seat.

Nope, its not. And newborns are put in a laying position, at a 45 degree angle, not a sitting position. The seat actually serves to protect their spine and other fragile bones.

I don't see why they would be. It would take HOURS and HOURS of continuously sitting in a car seat to cause a problem. Most babies aren't in the car seat for that long.
