Please, I need a lot of help about this.
Today I've found 4 baby sparrows at the garden. They're nest was upside down. It was supposed to be somewhere under the roof.
Now they're mother cannot look after them anymore.
I don't know what I have to do now. How should we feed them, how warm should they stay, where should ı keep them?????
Their eyes are yet closed, they don't have feathers and they keep on opening their mouths.
Please help. I don't want them to die...

Hi there,
I see you found some babies, so did I. I'll tell you how to keep them alive. Get a heating pad, put it on low in a box. Cover the heating pad with a cloth & the top of the box so the neat will not get out. They will also poop a lot. Need to keep it clean! I feed my babies Gerber cereal for baby mix grain, add water don't make it to thick, or to watery ! I use a syringes, a good size one with out the needle. I suck the cereal up with the syring not cold or hot,( sorry about the spelling). The babies will open their mouth push just a little at a time to each baby. I've had my babies for 7 days now & growing up fast. I now feed the cereal with some Prescription Diet a/d Canine, Feline can food. (you can fined it at a vets office), with water. Same as before, not to thick or to watery. I feed my babies everytime they'd cry about every half hour, I'd stop feeding them about 8:00pm mom & dad birds stop feeding at night time. I also get up at 4:30am or 5:am to start it all over again. It's fun but at the sametime it's hard work. Your the mom, you have to try to take care of them now. good-luck. P.S. You have to keep your heating pad on at all times ! If you would like to, take a look at my babies on my home page, Yahoo or my albums in yahoo. I wish you luck.
I hope I helped ?
Hi it's me again, just wanted to know how the babies are doing ? If they make it the first 48 hours, then you are doing good :)
Let me know Please, again GOOD-LUCK :)

If they are house sparrows, I believe it is legal to keep them since they are invasive species (at least where I live). The mom may come back for them if you put the nest back where it was it was originally. The whole thing about birds abandoning babies and eggs because of human scent is an old wives' tale... trust me, I do research on birds and I touch the eggs and babies every day. Anyways, put the nest back in the original spot and watch from a safe distance for about an hour. If the parents don't stop by, then you can take them.
I successfully raised a house sparrow this way:
Put dry dog food into a bowl, add hot water, and let it soak. Once its mushy, mix and stir it till its a pretty uniform mush. Spoon this into a needless syringe and when the babies open their mouths, shove it down as far as you can and squirt some in. You'll know which ones need to be fed because of the crop on the side of their neck that fills with food. Don't give them any water! It can cause pneumonia.
Keep them in your house, make a warm nest out of washcloths or kleenex or something.
For a feeding schedule, just feed when they cry, but keep an eye on the crops If they are full, they don't need to eat. They will not need to eat at night, but they'll wake you up at about 5 or 6 to let you know its time to eat (assuming you keep them near your bed).
Good luck, let me know if you have any more questions!

Provide a good warm place for them that should be about 85 degrees, no direct sun lamp, this will kill them. Go to the store and buy Ensure Milk Shake, you know the kind of old persons milk shake. Heat up a small amount to at least 105 but not more than 108 and feed each of them out of an eye dropper. Make sure everything that you use is clean and sanitized after every feeding. This will hold them till you get a good commercial bird hand feeding formula at the local pet store. Follow the directions and keep feeding them every 2 hours or so. Call your local Animal Control Enforcement Officer and inform them what your doing and they will get you in touch with a wildlife rehab station. Keep up the good work.

First of all it needs to be kept very warm. Make a makeshift nest from cool whip bowl and line with tissues. Then put the baby in nest and the nest in a cardboard box and put a heating pad under the outside bottom of box. Baby birds this young need to be fed every 1/2 hour from sun up to sun down or it will not live. Birds do not eat at night. Get Kaytee Exact Baby bird food and feed with a syringe of even the end of a popsicle stick. Until then can mush up dog or cat food that has been soaked in water with excess water blotted off and mush to applesauce like texture. Put in back of throat when baby gapes. Little bits at a time or can aspirate and die. Never give water it will choke and die. Gets all moisture it needs from foods. Also good idea to get some meal worms at pet store and cut in half and feed those. The best chance the bird has is if you get it to a wildlife rehabber in your area. You can call the local vets as many have the number of rehabbers or call the DEC. BAby birds are very tricky to raise and have many special needs. Good luck and nice of you to help it.

i JUST raised a baby sparrow. here is the website that i used:
(it is for starlings AND sparrows) NOTE: if you dont have enough time to feed them EVERY 30 minutes, then you need to find a rehabber. i would suggest reading everything on this website. it is very helpful.
Here is the recipe i used for feeding mine:
Handfeeding Forumula Recipe
1 cup soaked dog/cat food
1/4 cup of applesauce
1 hard boiled egg
Avian vitamins (follow dosage on package)
Around 750 mg calcium (I use Tums Smooth Dissolve tablet) ground to powder and dissolved in a little water.
Water
Mix all ingredients together, and add enough water to make it the consistency of cooked oatmeal.
The above formula can be divided into portions and frozen. This formula works well for baby House Sparrows and some other passerines. Only leave this food at room temperatures for an hour or so, as it can spoil.
Good luck!

Make sure you can't put the nest back to where it was. that would be the best thing.
Look on the internet for help. I raised some last year but they had feathers. I gave them softened dog food pieces dipped in water. BUT they were older. Not sure what you should do in your situaion.
best thing to do is put the cage back. even if you have to build a bracket to hold the nest.

Hop in to the garden and dig up some worms with your nose. Chew them a little and feed the baby sparrows directly from your mouth. Make squeaky, birdlike sounds while you do it.
Sorry but the parents will not care for the young even if you knew where the nest came from. The chances are that they will die, if they havnt already.
BUT: There is a chance. Look here:

That happened to me once. I called animal control. They said to leave the birds alone and let Mom take care of them.
Now that you've handled them Mom certainly won't come back.
I hate to break it to you, but the chance of them dying is very high. Prepare yourself.
