I must admit I don't have very much time for those who hurl Scripture at people as if that's the whole answer. Surely, if it is to work at all, Scripture works in the heart of an individual, not in a vacuum?
But then I have even less time for the fundamentalist non-believers, who criticise those who believe the Bible literally but use the Bible literally themselves to fund their criticism. The irony of that must simply pass them by.
How do I feel if someone slanders my belief system? To anyone who offers a reasoned objection to mainstream Christian belief I will listen and respond in kind so far as I am able. Those who are abusive I do my best to ignore. I may be saddened; but my God is big enough not to be diminished by the taunts of unbelievers, nor do I believe that I am required to be abusive - or worse - in God's defence.

You take an odd position in this sort of discussion place.
It is almost inevitable that someone will disagree with just about any opinion expressed here and there is a good chance that someone will be rude.
I agree that gratuitous rudeness or insults are not necessary, but really, you just have to accept that some of that will happen here.
I do not believe in god and in expressing my disbelief I inevitably claim that another person's religious belief is false. In saying that I am not slandering any religion; I am simply expressing the truth. If that offends you, I apologise, but surely you would not expect me to lie?

This is very true, I do not see the need to slam or make fun of other peoples beliefs or deities.
We should have a lot more respect for other people.

I love what a sweetheart you are Pangel.
I try to be respectful, but sometimes it's just too hard to show respect for something I have zero respect for.
As for how I would feel if someone disrespected my beliefs?
I'm an oddball; the opinions of others rarely affect me. Only people who I love and respect, and who love and respect me can hurt my feelings.

You know Pangel. When people do these things they show a side of them they try to say doesn't exist. It's easy to fall into the trap of fighting back. Just like earlier a prayer for a prayer. It's immature. Markky's question about saying something nice for his friend has been deleted. I answered the original message and got a thumbs down. I said something nice.
There are people on here how are so unhappy with their lives that they have to be mean and nasty to people who are being nice. Who knows why and I really don't care why. It's like most bullies though, they think it makes them appear bigger than others. Heartless people. Joyless people. They hide behind their keyboards.

I agree. It seems on here everyones beliefs are put down by someone at some point. I have stopped doing that because it isn't right to keep bashing someones beliefs. Live and let live. You don't have to agree and you don't have to bash.

They do say no man is an island so if somebody needs something to support them and this happens to be some religion then it works for them. I don't care as long as they don't go round trying to get other people to believe in it particularly vulnerable children

this is very true...i don't believe in any deity...but i often wonder how any person intheir right mind could completely insult another person by saying "sorry your god is false" and then say "my god is the only true one" and expect people to take that respectfully...

I'd love to be that accepting and tolerant, P. But as you recall, I tried my hand at being Minister of Tolerance here and it got me a stalker and a ton of violations. Now I just speak my mind, regardless of what anyone else thinks. If something I post in a forum hurts someone else's feelings to any degree whatsoever, they need to take a break or seek counseling.
