IED's almost always are on tight city streets or out in the country side. The simple answer is.....dont drive on the roads. This solution only works in the country side/ not the tight cities. If humvees dont drive on the roads, it would make getting hit by an IED ten times harder. DRIVE OFF THE ROADS!

You are using your head, however it might cost you it as well. Very tough to run trucks through sand, where they sink. In addition, the countryside is full of anti-personnel bomb clusters that we dropped!

Note to Einstein:

Enlist to serve in any of the US Armed Forces, then float your idea up the chain of command.

By the way, Iraq is not all desert. The country has metropolitan cities complete with roads, highways and streets.

This is a good example of why old fart Generals and Senior NCO's run the military. They have the experience.

You did try though, think out the next fix a little longer

Your idea is good in theory, but not in practice--it's not the first time someone's suggested it, either. Iraq isn't all desert, and it certainly isn't all open, flat, hard terrain. You HAVE to use the roads--and even if you didn't, do you really think insurgents would keep laying IEDs on the roadways idly as convoys roll around them in the desert? They place them where they observe the most traffic and the most predictable traffic; complacency is and always will be the biggest killer in war, regardless of the tactics used in the actual attack. They keep adapting to us, and we keep adapting to them.

WoW what fantastic ideas!!

so how do you suggest we protect all the supply trucks, they cant go off-road, the humvees have to escort them and offer proctection.

We eagerly await your next brainstorm. . . . .

A far more logical answer exists; Get the feck out of there. Your soldiers are obviously unwelcome!!

then they would just start putting them off roads.
have you ever heard of a Mine.

the technology is there to prevent IED and RPG attacks unfourtunately our government considers them too expensive and would rather spend years developing them ourselves then spend the money now and prevent more soldiers from dying The Government wants to keep this war going as long as possible so it can make more money While innocent soldiers and Iraqi civilinas are dying.
