I have seen doctors give it in small doses to patients like you, for certain occasions, like weddings, or before a procedure. The doctors I work for usually give a VERY small amount to someone for a special occasion, like a wedding, or flying etc.
What dosage were you given? Anything from 0.5mg to 1mg should be mild enough to calm your nerves without the problems of sleepiness etc.
Don't drink if you are taking the Ativan - the alcohol will increase the effects of the medication, and you may become sleepy, dizzy, and sometimes nauseated.
Congratulations on your marriage - wishing you much happiness!

Yes, ativan is a sedative that calms your anxiety. It has side effect of sleepiness. I would try 1/2 of it several nights before to see how you feel the next day. It will calm you down so you are cool and collective- you just do not want to be tired-so I would try it out before hand. It is a benzodiazepine that is used in patients with panic disorder or generalized anxiety disorder or for people who are giving speaches- it helps with the nerves if taken one time- it takes continued use to become habit forming....good luck

I've never taken it, but I worked as a dental assistant at a dentist's office. Patients there would tkae it to calm their nerves because some people are just so afraid of the dentist that they can't sleep or eat or basically be calm for weeks before just coming in for dental cleanings! I've never seen anything but good results from it. People rave about how they're not as nervous and they leave and they're fine. My grandmother takes it for her anxiety and she's been able to concentrate on more important things in life since being on it. (She would obsess over things like where each and every one of her kids was at any given time...if she called their house and they didn't answer she would panic and go to their house only to find they were simply in the yard or the shower unable to answer the phone...bad) So I don't see why you shouldn't take it...especially before your wedding...you don't want to look over stressed in those pictures...you want to look like a blushing bride! Congrats and relax! Let me know how it goes...I'd be interested to hear!

I have taken it once, my boyfriends father took it before he passed away, my mother takes it and my sister in law takes it - all it does is calms you down a little, it shouldnt make you too much of a drone, if your not used to narcotics or sedation - it may make you sleepy - it made me sleepy - but it also calmed my nerves greatly.

yep waddaya wanna know

ok since i got a thumbs down.....
i'll just tell you that if you never taken it before - be careful - as the RN said - it is overkill - you could have gotten something much milder - you will say and do things you've never done before - and there is a great chance, if you take it on your wedding day - you won't remember it

ps: it is usually prescribed for older people - by older drs

My mother takes it. It is a tranquilizer, right?
They are addictive, be careful how you use them.

The site below explains all side effects & who should use it & why... etc.
