My purebred Persian cat has flees and I need help! We have no other animals and she does not ever go outside so I guess she picked up these fleas when I took her to the vet last Sat. to get her annual shots. She came home covered in fleas. I gave her a bath in cat flea dip ( I asked the vet and he said make sure I got cat flea dip and not dog flea dip it's too strong for cats) so I did trust me bathing a cat is no fun cat's hate water! Yesterday I put down some flea carpet powder on my carpets and I've washed all our sheets (she sleeps with us in our bed), rugs where she lays, pet bedding, etc. Any other suggestions on how to get rid of the left over fleas in my house and to make sure they will not come back? What is everybody thoughts on using the frontline on cats? I just don't want it to be too strong for her she only weighs b/t 5 and 8 lbs. Thanks!

I'm surprised the vet advocated use of a flea dip, does he know that little about flea control?? Well probably I suppose if there are fleas in his surgery.

Use Frontline, it's the safest as well as the most effective product out there. The spot-on will not be too much for a 5-8lb cat - yes she's a small cat, but not too small for Frontline. Plus it's very hard to overdose on Frontline, it's that safe.

If your vet doesn't stock Fronltine (shocking) find one that does. You also need some proper spray for your house - I recommend Indorex, Staykil or Acclaim.

You'll need to use regular Fronltine on your kitty monthly, but if you get rid of the current infestation using house spray and regular Frontline you can prevent the fleas coming back by using Frontline Plus on your cat every six weeks - it treats the environment too, by killing the flea eggs.

Indoor cats get fleas too, fleas enter houses as easy as you or I - especially when there are pets inside!

Get either Frontline or Advantage from the vet. I use Advantage for my cats and have never seen a flea on them. Don't get the OTC stuff like Hartz...that has been known to actually kill cats. A vet tech told me that one time. You can find some flea stuff that you can spray on your carpets that kill fleas in your carpets. They have it at places like WalMart or even hardware stores may have it. You'll need to read the directions and put your cat in another room for 30 minutes to an hour after spraying, but I've used these sprays before and they're very effective. Oh, and the Frontline and Advantage have the weight specifications so your 5-8 lb cat is not a problem.

I have used both frontline & advantage with no problems to prevent fleas. You have to treat the cat & the cat's environment to get rid of fleas and it sounds like you have covered your bases. Make sure that you stay vigilant since flea eggs can hatch weeks later. (I have found using Borax powder in the carpets is a cheap solution for keeping the fleas down & have never had a reaction from my cats too it)

This relies on what type he acquired. If he acquired a low-cost type, it may not paintings in any respect. Period. In reality, a few of them are downright poisonous and must be washed off the cat. The encouraged spot-on therapies are Advantage, Frontline, and Revolution. Note: a few cats are allergic to a number of of those merchandise. it isn't normal however it has been recognized to occur. Watch your cat carefully for the following couple of days after making use of the remedy. If there's ANY signal of illness, take her to a vet instantly. If you used a type of merchandise, you must begin seeing upgrades inside a few days. However, do not give up there. She demands a per 30 days dose of the stuff due to the fact the eggs that the fleas are laying now can be hatched and adults laying extra eggs in a month's time. The handiest strategy to holiday that cycle is to flea-deal with the cat each month. Treat your condominium too. If there are fleas at the cat, there are flea eggs within the carpet and at the furnishings too. Your vacuum purifier is your nice buddy on this quandary. Vacuum every day. Flea eggs aren't sticky and can get sucked proper up. Flea larvae, nevertheless, ARE sticky and won't get vacuumed up so you're going to need to hold vacuuming till the flea cycle is damaged. Empty your vacuum purifier external away out of your condominium after every vacuuming. Flea larvae love to reside in puppy beds due to the fact they devour grownup flea droppings. They rely at the puppy to return there every day so the droppings can fall out in their fur and feed the larvae. Shake the bedding out external clear of the condominium every day. The larvae would possibly persist with the mattress, however you're shaking out its meals whilst you do this. Starve them suckers! Lastly, in case your cat has fleas, there's a very prime threat she has worms too. Most fleas are inflamed and supply it to the cat or puppy once they chunk. Best get your cat de-wormed.

Depending on how bad the infestation got it will take time.

The treatment on your cat will kill the fleas on her, but not all around your home (say in the carpet, ect).

You may actually need a professional exterminator. They can spray your home with a insect treatment that sterilizes all of the fleas and their unhatched eggs.

With the fleas unable to reproduce they'll disappear shortly as long as your cat remains clean.
