85% of all sore throats are viral, these are all infectious, even if you have no tonsils. Many sore throats are diagnosed as tonsillitis by some GPs who almost, incorrectly, use it as a generic term for sore throat and use this as an excuse for giving everyone an antibiotic prescription.. If it is one of the genuine streptococcal sore throats it is infectious, you have to get it from somewhere, but less so than a viral illness.

Yes it is
Both viruses and bacteria may cause tonsillitis. In general, young children tend to get viral tonsillitis, and older children and adults get bacterial infections.
Tonsillitis can spread from person to person through throat or nasal fluids - this includes saliva, hand contact or airborne droplets. The incubation period (the period between picking up the infection and symptoms starting to appear) is usually between two and four days

Tonsillitis can be caused by many different types of bacteria or viruses, some of which can be contagious. There's no way to know for sure whether or not your daughter's tonsillitis is contagious without doing a Strep test or throat culture, so try not to get too close just in case it is contagious!

Yes all forms of tonsillitis are contagious. Tonsillitis usually spreads from person to person by contact with the throat or nasal fluids of someone who is already infected. Be sure to keep your sick child's drinking glasses and eating utensils separate, and wash them in hot, soapy water. All family members should wash their hands frequently. After a bout of tonsillitis that's caused by the strep bacteria, throw out your child's toothbrush and replace it with a new one

if she has tonsilitus then she could have little spots on her throat. you gets the an infection, even though it is going to impact you in yet in any different case. this is extremely contagious. There;s no longer something you're able to do.

NOT all forms of tonsillitis are contagious. It depends on what is causing the inflammation - bacteria or virus. If it is bacterial, she should be on antibiotics and it should clear up well. If it is viral, it is not contagious and will run its course. The best way to avoid catching it is good handwashing.

tonsillitis is a symptom, not a disease. all it means is inflammation of the tonsils. the inflammation could be due to any number of reasons, viral, bacterial, allergic reaction are all possibilities. Has your child seen a doctor, did he put her on antibiotics? If so, she is not contagious after 24 hours on the medications. If she hasn't seen a doctor, shame on you.
