Use thinset mortar - tile adhesive just isn't as high quality/won't hold up as well. If you've never layed tile before, you really should talk to someone at either a local tile store or a home improvement store (if that's all you can find). They'll help you get everything you need and can help you more based on what tile you're using and where you're doing it.

I don't know what kind of tile that you are installing, but to be safe use thin-set mortar with latex. It's the most expensive mortar at HD/Lowes. Mix the mortar correctly and you are good to go with both issues . I usually use the latex mortar when I'm installing floor tile on a wall or if it's marble/granite 12x12 tiles. @AielloInc

Adhesive...then grout 24 hours later. Mortar is for stone and brickwork.

you should use thinset when installing ceramic tile, and what kind you use depends on what kind of floor you are installing on.terazzo is a non porous material and requires a thinset or motor that has moer polymers in it to make it adhere to the floor better

don't use mortor use thinset. check the instructions on your adhesive alot of them are made for walls
