I read the "chicken or egg" scenario about 10 times in the last hour. Any other really common ones?

Disgruntled: Jesus did show up, and I think there is little historical evidence to discount/disprove that. Likewise, prayers are answered. Don't confuse that with asking that God show himself to the world and citing His invisibility as proof that He doesn't exist.

That evolution is just plain right, how could a loving God send people to hell, where is He I can't see Him, why would we need Him............................................................................................................................

As far as disproofs go in the form of objective claims (as opposed to personal reasons for disbelief):

One of the most common arguments I see is the benevolence argument (if God existed, we wouldn't see suffering). This argument doesn't hold because it rests on the false assumption that a deity has to be omnipotent and omnibenevolent in order to be a deity.

Other arguments seemed focused on one particular religion. "These things don't add up, therefore God doesn't exist." Again, this wouldn't hold because there is more than one religion that holds a belief in deity, and proving some of them or even all of them wrong about other things still doesn't prove the non-existence of deity.

I sometimes see science misused as an argument too. We know from looking at the world that people clearly weren't made out of clay and a rib, that you can't fit all of the different animals on an ark and expect the same genetic diveristy we have today, etc. But again that just disprove one religion's creation myth, not the existence of deity.

I know that being ignorant about a subject doesnt stop people from flapping their gums about it. Jesus existed? No evidence to refute it? I believe he was made up. If he was such a central figure in Western civilization, then why don't we know what year the crucifixtion happened. We know the year ghengis khan was born in and died.

Prayer exists. I have yet to see someone duplicate it. We can split an atom. Well, why can't we separate someone's soul from their body.

Unfortunately, as children, we believe adults. We assume adults know everything and would never lie to a child. Unfortunately, adults do lie to children all the time. And some lies (like religious magic) carry over into adulthood.

If you take any aspect of religion, you have to be willfully ignorant to believe. and if you dissect it, most things won't hold true. Prayer, let's see it. Heaven, lets go there. Soul, bring it out. The world isn't flat anymore, kemosabe.

Saying that the burden of proving God exist falls on Christians. Why should we have to prove he does exist any more than atheists have to prove he does not exist. Since there is such a big debate about then it seems that there has been no proof either way. When you do believe in God, there is proof within you, proof that cannot be logically explained or even understood at times.

Well, there are those who try to use dubious logic flaws and insults that one can find AND come up with less dubious, yet still subious defenses against in about 10 seconds, such as "how did god create the universe," "stop ****ing bibles," and also re-asserting what the general atheistic arguement several times over (put simply, they say what they are trying to prove and offer what they are trying to prove several times more for 'proof'). Such flawed arguements also occur in theism, such as this concept of 'knowing through faith.' By simplified definition, faith is belief in what you DON'T know, therefore making those attempts futile.

And then, there is the rare occasion when one person, atheist, theist, or otherwise, actually does some thinking and comes up with meaningful arguements. Such is the person I admire. Unfortunately, their arguement often gets answered by the same type of stuff mentioned above.

To question his existance....it is the only one. Personal experience is never good when proving him. As a Pastor I see many questions about this. There is proof of Jesus and it really starts from there......research.

The 'concept' of God is usually defined by a lack of a definition.

God is not a concept at all because it subsumes no particulars. Unlike a real concept, there is nothing in reality to which one can refer to and say, 'That is God.'

Therefore, God is not real.

The
"Silence of God" and the "Problem of Pain and Injustice"-both of which can also be used to "prove' God.

If God exists, prayer would be answered.

It's not.

If the Christian god existed, Jesus would have shown up by now.

He hasn't.

If the Bible is correct, the earth would appear to be about six thousand years old.

It isn't.

the burden of proof falls on the people who believe. I do realize that many superstitions die hard and god is one of them.
