Okay I'm applying online for some jobs, CVS and STOP &SHOP ( just for summer employment and some extra cash). Im getting really scared b/c they keep asking for permission to conduct drug tests and background checks. I have to select job positions from a list with vague descriptions. Is all this really safe, and how can I know I'm not gonna get skrewed over with my personal info out to them? I have no problem being flexible, as long as they are willing to be reasonable. I'm really hoping they dont give me some n@$ty $h!t jobs. Yes I am over 18. No drugs or criminal background, Squeaky clean. I swear...not in the bad way,well.... oh, whatever!

How did you deal with this!? Help I'm nervous.
HELP!

~ DON'T TRUST ONLINE APPLICATIONS FOR A JOB YOU CAN GO INSIDE AND PICK UP AN APPLICATION NEARBY. 9 TIMES OUT OF 10 ONLINE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE PROCESSED TO YOUR LOCAL CVS STORE OR WALMART. GO TO THE STORE AND FILL OUT A PAPER APPLICATION-NEATLY MAIL IT BACK IN AND CALL A WEEK LATER FOR A FOLLOW UP. BEST OF LUCK ~

Giving that kind of information and permission is a part of the application process. These are major corporations that know what they can and can't do with that info and the need to keep it confidential.

The job titles should give you some kind of insight into what the job is. But you won't know for sure what you will be doing until they interview you and offer you a job. At that point you can either accept it or turn it down.

Yes it is safe, most places have a secure web site, and as for the drug test, and background test (see if you have warrants) that has become common practice for most reputable companies. Drug test to get hired and then random drug tests during employment. Get your resume on Monster, Career builder, Jobster, the state unemployment office also has connections and jobs.

Many jobs do required a drug test and background check. No drugs or criminal background? No worries.

Make sure when you sign the paperwork to allow them to conduct these things, that you read before you sign and ask questions.

I'm going to be 100% honest with you. Any part-time job at CVS or Stop and Shop is going to be crappy. It's retail and retail sucks. If there is a cash office position, where you don't have to deal with customers, try for that. Otherwise, you'll get to deal with stupid, smelly, fat, ugly, mean, idiotic, jerks on a daily basis. Just being honest.

Drug test and background checks are common and no big deal. Just make sure the places that you are applying to are legit. CVS etc. (larger companys)

I'm over 60, worked my whole life, and they ask me to do drug tests, too. Don't worry about it. It is normal business practice. And no matter what position you do get, it's going to be scut work. That's what you get working in retail, especially supermarkets. My daughter worked at one one summer, and it really sucked. She was cleaning out fthe fryers for the chicken in the deli department. But it paid ok and she moved on.

Every employer does background checks. Don't worry. As long as you are using their website or something like Monster nothing will happen.
