Despite the rant of the preacher, the real purpose of church is community-building. Human beings are gregarious by nature, and tend to need, since even before we climbed down out of the trees and started walking on two legs, to live, work and fight as a tribe, a group, a state or a nation. Church gives people a common bond: "These people all think like me. I can trust them!"
Such community-building always was, and still is, essential for survival in a coldly indifferent and often hostile world.

Lets start out with this. First of all, church is a body of people, not a building. It has been a common misconception for many years. Look it up!

Second: there exists a scripture that tells us to assemble ourselves together......spiritual reasons.

Further:
The words “church” and “churches” occur over 110 times in the King James Version. Other translations also use these terms. The Greek word translated “church” literally means “a calling forth,” or, in other words, a gathering of people. For example, Acts 7:38, in the King James Version, tells of Moses being “in the church in the wilderness,” that is, among the congregated nation of Israel. In another instance the Scriptures state that “a bitter persecution started against the church,” referring to the community of Christians in Jerusalem. (Acts 8:1, The Jerusalem Bible) In one of his letters, Paul greets “the church in [Philemon’s] house,” the local congregation that met there.—Philemon 2, Revised Standard Version.

Clearly, the term “church” as used in the Bible designates, not a place of worship, but rather a group of worshipers. Acknowledging this, Clement of Alexandria, a second-century religious teacher, wrote: “Not the place, but the congregation of the elect, I call the Church.” Still, must Christians be present at a specific location or building in order for their worship to be acceptable to God?

Well, I go to church to learn His word. I am fortunate in that the church I attend is a very good bible teaching church. They have bible studies every day of the week. Sundays the pastor begins in Genesis, goes through to Revelation, and then we start all over again. It takes us about eight years of Sundays.

We also have wonderful praise and worship music, and it's a real joy to sing God's praises with a large group of fellow believers. It's great to be among so many people who love Jesus and are devoted to learning God's word.

To be around other Christians. But as far as God goes He would be more pleased if you read a chapter a day out of the Bible meditate on His word day and night and throughout your day take some time to just fellowship with Him,Praising Him for what He has already done in your life and for who He is,A loving, caring awesome creator. That is what He would like to see, He wants us to worship Him, He is not so worried about what we can do for Him as our heart condition. Take care and may God bless you spiritually.

To learn more about the Grand creator and his purposes for us.
Also, at Hebrews 10:24,25, we are encouraged to congregate together all the more so as the day draws near. We need to encourage others as well.

Personally, I find it very encouraging when I see the elderly ones make it despite the hardships they have to face on a daily basis. Truly amazing.

To hear the words of God, and to participate in the Eucharist, which is an act of rememberance and thanksgiving towards God, and a communion between believers and Christ.

It brings me closer to the real meaning of God and the Church. I fell the anxiety leaving me. I love to pray to certain Saints, When I light the candles for my mom and dad it bring me closer to them, I feel like I just saw them although they passed years ago.
I see my friends and can say hello to them. It just feels like a friendly time. I like it.

for fellowship and to be inspired....to bring your tithes to the storehouse...to help others.

However, churches are now political machines...and are not really doing what they have been called to do.

I go to church to meditate...it makes me slow down...focus on God.. get closer to him. I listen to the sermon and hope to gain inspiration...but, I find God not through people's actions or the rhetoric of a particular religion...but, through my own seeking.

To be among people of the same faith and values. To worship together. To strengthen each other. To participate in the ordinances of the Gospel.
