Use Frontline topspot on the dog. Get Borax detergent and sprinkle it all over the floors of the house. Leave it for 2 days. It will kill the fleas. In 10 days more will hatch, so you either have to leave the laundry detergent down and walk it into your carpets or else redo it in 10 days. You can do the same with the lawn. Wash the dog's bedding and dry it in a hot dryer to kill the eggs. No other detergent works.... it has to be borax for the boric acid in it. It won't hurt you or the dog.

Best thing I've found, is either Frontline or Advantage spot on treatment for the dog. Sometimes you have to try one or the other, I think fleas are getting immune to them. Vacuum a lot inside, you could try chemicals, but I don't like using those. I've heard sprinkling a little Borax laundry booster on rugs, let it sit overnight then vacuum is supposed to help as well. But the meds on the dog will help a lot in the house as well. Also need to treat the yard where the dog goes, I just used the granules, get one that specifically says kills fleas. Be sure to wash and dry on high heat any bedding or material type toys the dog has. Takes some time, usually within 2 weeks you'll see improvement, and about a month to completely get rid of them. But you have to do all those steps, and continue with the flea treatment on the dog, otherwise they just come back. Here's a site, they have the cheapest Advantage or Frontline I've seen around, and the shipping is fairly cheap as well:

You will not be able to keep them off ur dog, if they are bad inside the house.. Take care of the house first, they have sprays and such for ur carpet, and make sure to get along the floor boards, all bedding, furniture etc.. If this doesn't help call the exterminator, they do make bombs for the home, but you have to make sure every animal and people are outside of the home for a few hours and cover all ur stuff. And in the mean time, then treat ur dog. Do not over treat him/her with to many flea products at one time though, you can cause more harm then good, and possibly kill ur little baby.. To many products can cause skin irritations, lose of hair and sickness.. Drops like frontline work well, or advantage, but you have to take care of the home first, before you will see any results from the products.. Flea collars are pretty useless, they only keep fleas from the face, they do nothing for the body. And you probally didnt have any luck with the vet products, cause you have a mess in the home to contend with also.. Take care of the home and outside around the house, then our little buddy and you should find some relief. Best of luck

What products did you try exactly? Because I can guarantee that Frontline works - IF applied correctly and IF the lifecycle of the flea is tackled in the correct manner.
You need to treat your animal and your house. Once fleas are on an animal, they are already in the house. They live and breed both on the animal and in the carpet/sofa, hopping on and off both you and your dog to feed. They lay their eggs on your dog and the carpet, and the eggs hatch into larvae which mature into adults. Most flea products kill adult fleas but not the eggs or larvae, so one treatment will not rid you of fleas.
Get some Frontline Spray or spot-on, or Revolution/Stronghold or Advantage if you like. It's very important to part the hair on your animal to expose the skin, the product MUST go on the skin. Revolution soaks in easily but Frontline has to be put in a few different places on the back to help prevent it pooling and flooding on to the fur.
Spray your house - the carpets and the sofas. You will probably need to do this twice a few days apart to catch the fleas that have newly hatched.
Once you have got the fleas off your animal and out your house you can use Frontline Plus every 6 weeks on just your animal - this is the one product that kills flea eggs and larvae and so keeps fleas out the environment as well.
Trust me, it works, I can't even tell you how many people this regime has worked for! But it is more tricky that just plonking treatment on your dog from time to time.

If possible, I'd suggest giving your dog a bath - unless s/he gets traumatized and is hard to handle. If that's the case, I'd take him/her to a groomer.
Second step, apply Advantage or Frontline - monthly. It kills about 98% of fleas.
Third step, clean the house - if s/he's on your bed, wash your bedding. Wash all his own bedding or anything he sleeps on. If you have hardwood floors, a good cleaning should do. Vacuum all the furniture.
If you have carpet, a tried and true inexpensive remedy to get rid of the flea larvae in the carpet is to use Borax and salt.
Buy a box of Borax powdered soap, a box of salt and mix it with a 4-to-1 ration. Four parts Borax to one part salt. Sprinkle it over your carpet, rub it in and leave it for a week. Vacuum up after a week. It will kill the larvae and no more flea problem!
I've done this a couple times when moving into new homes that have had bad flea problems. I've got 4 cats and it works great!

Frontline and advantage do really well on the fleas, frontline is multi-stage killing the eggs, larvae and adult fleas. To speed things along, you can also powder your carpets (about once a week for a month or so) to kill the fleas that are in the carpet, just make sure your dog is out of the house until you vacuum the powder out.

you CAN use frontlint or advantage on your dog a little more often than they say..and if you use revolution you can ADD either frontline or advantage. Use it every two weeks for a month or so. Treat the house and yard...and VACCUM every day for a couple of weeks...a simple vaccuming removes 30-50% of fleas, eggs and larvae from your carpet and upholstery...think about it...100 fleas-50 the first day-25 more the second day and so on...PLUS the ones you're killing...

USE WHAT THE VET GAVE YOU FOR THE DOG--YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE CARE OF THE HOUSE AND THE OUTSIDE OF THE HOUSE IF YOUR DOG GOES OUT IN THE YARD, HAVE TO DO BOTH AT THE SAME TIME--IT'S THAT TIME OF YEAR FOR FLEAS--DOING ONLY ONE AREA WILL NOT WORK. YOU CAN BUY SPRAY FOR FLEAS, TICKS, ETC, AT HOME DEPOT, LOWES, ETC, FOR THE OUTSIDE. YOU MIGHT TRY SEVIN DUST FOR INSIDE THE HOUSE--PUT IT DOWN AND LET IT SIT FOR A WHILE, THEN VACUUM IT UP--IT'S ALMOST LIKE BABY POWDER, BUT YOU DON'T NEED A WHOLE LOT OF IT--CAN BE APPLIED ON THE FURNITURE ALSO. GOOD LUCK--IT'S WORKED FOR ME.

i treat my dogs with spray on frontline. it cost around 30$ a bottle.i like it because you can adjust the dosage. you should be able to get at a groomers or pet supply store. but you need to set off bug bombs in your house made for killing fleas. if you don't get rid of them in the house it wont matter if you treat your dog. i would treat my yard to just to be on the safe side. those little this get everywhere.
