Your question has nothing to do with religion.
But to answer your question, if the castaways escaped from the island the series would have ended. The castaways did eventually escape during the three terrible reunion movies of "Gilligan's Island" made during the 1980s.

Because he was a conservative and he knew that if he got off the island his show would be canceled. So he would rather make everyone suffer than lose some of his air time.
