It is subliminal and is based on the archetypal phallic symbology of the noodley appendage.
Edit: It’s the same reason he is so popular with the ladies.

I don't hate the FSM - I roll my eyes at it. It is one of the most poorly constructed apologetic devices in the history of theological dialogue. They call it a "parody" of religion, but it is a parody constructed by people with a quite poor understanding of it (which is why most religious people just say "wha...?" when confronted with it - a good parody is recognizable to the one parodied and this is not.)
A lot of modern day atheists latch onto the FSM because it is the same kind of vulgar humour that the drunks and crazy people in Shakespeare's plays represent - a bone tossed out to those who couldn't get the rest of the play.
"Faith, here's an equivocator, that could swear in both the scales against either scale, who comitted treason enough for God's sake, yet could not equivocate to heaven." (the drunk porter in Macbeth)

Ahhhhh. They hate it?
Unfair generalization Kallan! Steriotyping! I'm disappointed in you. Sigh. Well if 'some' are ...maybe it's the slurpiness and red spaghetti sauce stains.
Peace... all in good fun!

They fear the FSM because they know he is a more merciful god then their's is. They don't wish to anger their crazy old god, lest him smite them.
