Here is an example:
I have someone who is e-mailing me ridiculous messages and CC's them to everyone under the sun. I could go back and forth with this person but I prefer to be more professional. I want to say to this person that I am not going to get into a pissing match with them. How do I say it politely?

Just stop responding to their emails. But I do agree with "spitting match." Send one more email and say you won't respond again and that's it. Get your boss or human resources involved.

Spitting contest is a bit more appropriate. 'Test of wills' might not fit the situation, but is most acceptable.
