Thanks Dave C - it appears you are correct. Amazing how a manufacturer of crab meat would not know this:

The typical categories for the Crab meat will be lump, backfin or claw meat, but combinations of several may also be available. The lump and backfin meat are large pieces taken from the body chamber while the claw meat is removed from the front arms or claws of the Crab.

I thought Lump crab meat was meat from inside the body of the crab, as opposed to claw and fin meat... it could be any type of crab.

This website agrees with my belief.

There are two types of meat from crabs, claw and leg meat, and lump which is largely from the body. If you cook your own blue crabs, you'll notice that claw and leg meat get "shredded" in the removing process. This is good 'filler' for crab recipes but "lump" meat comes out of the body of the crab and provides more enjoyment since it has more substance than the shredded meat.

http://www.alwaysfreshfish.com/fresh_lump_crabmeat.html

The fresh Lump Crabmeat that AlwaysFreshFish.com uses comes from the United States. We are proud to sell our crabmeats from Maryland, the Carolinas, and Alabama. The fresh Lump Crabmeat which you will receive, will come from domestic Blue Crabs.

From AlwaysFreshFish.com your fresh Lump Crabmeat will come to you in a one (1) pound pre-packaged plastic container. The fresh Lump Crabmeat will be freshly cooked so that you can eat it immediately right from the container or use the Lump Crabmeat in salads, soups, and of course crab cakes.

Lump Crabmeat is the smaller pieces of meat from the Blue Claw Crab.

As with all crab products,
always check for small pieces of shell in the crabmeat.
