Because he only has the one rug. If he sold it to you, the man could no longer call his store "Arnold's Rug". That's why he wouldn't advertize his store in the GTE Everything Pages.

Maybe the sign was broken and it originally said
"Arnold's Drug" (drug store or something seedy)
"Arnold's RuB" (massage parlor or again something seedy)
In short, he had no rug to sell you.

I don't know there is a restaurant near me name Pat's Pig BBQ. They have been open for 3 months. I would think that Pat's pig would be completely eaten by now. It must have been a big pig.
