Aren't you amazed at how many kids don't want to accept the fact that it takes HARD WORK to become professional singers! It's like they look at you or even sometimes respond in disbelief when you give the reality of the business. They only see the glamour. It takes training, hustle, determination, constant practice, disappointments, struggle, times where you want to give up but you don't, sacrifice (a big one), and love for the art. I knew it took work to become a professional singer before I started this journey, which is why I contemplated for a while if this is what I REALLY wanted to do. Now many at that age don't even think about it. They think it's just luck. I had one student a couple of years ago in another state come in for a lesson talking about "I wanna be the next Britney Spears." I was like WHY! What is the point? This same student didn't even practice in the end. Some of these kids want advice, but don't practice. Do they really think it has been an easy road for us?

I believe some of these teens and young adults have the ability to be future pros, but they CANNOT with that mentality.

Ah true Kaiser, but along with the stars I knew I couldn't do it by osmosis. Maybe I was mature for my age. Older people used to call me an old soul LOL! Maybe I just thought rarely like the average teenager. I look at my child and he has the same analytical traits I had. Maybe I should think from a broader spectrum.

Unfortunately, we live in a society where kids think all it takes is "one big break" like American Idol and they'll be set for life. No one wants to put in the actual work it requires to be a great, trained singer. I've trained for over 10 years and I'm going to school for anthropology now, haha. There are many who have the talent, but who will never make it and that's a fact most people don't want to face.

I agree with you 100%. But think about it for a sec- weren't we young once and had stars in our eyes? I guess they all want the fame and glory, but few have the true love for the music and the stamina to actually see it through. I have neither fame nor glory, but I DO have the satisfaction of making a comfortable living doing what I love. Hard work pays off!
