You're definitely right -- Jews are not a race. However, there is one line that traces directly back to one common ancestor -- the Kohanim. Eighty percent of Jews who claim to be descendants of the priestly family have DNA which matches that of a common ancestor. The line passes from generation to generation and includes all derivatives of the name Kohan -- Cohen, Kohain, Cohon, Cohn, etc.
About Semites. Anti-Semitism has come to mean anti-Jew, but the term Semite actually means a native speaker of an Arabic language, i.e. Hebrew, Aramaic, Arabic, or one of many, many others.

I don't know anything about the dna stuff but i always kind of wondered about the ethnic identity thing because the Russian Jews Ive known look Russian, the british jews look british, etc. But then what happened to the ancient hebrews, they got assimilated biologically? I agree, opens up a lot of Big Issues.

Actually DNA studies in fact show nothing of the sort.

This is a canard anti-semites often use in their rants about... well, their rants about whatever I guess. But like the link shows, Jews are genetically most closely associated with Palestinians. Which is about what you'd expect if they did descend from the middle east.

If you'd provide your evidence I'd be happy to respond. Just who has done these studies? Were they published in a peer-reviewed journal? Have they been generally accepted by the scientific community?
And since I'm asking, I must answer my own questions with regards to L'Chaim's citation: 1) scientists; 2) yes; 3) yes
See links below.
Oh my, guess what? The links **also** provide sound evidence that many Jews **do** come from the Middle East.

changes nothing..flawed tests by incompetent scholars..arabs and jews come from the same ancient lineage. and the term "jews" alone proves what morons they are...12 tribes of Israel..not all were "jews" or of Judah....rather the term jews is pathetic at best and doesn't merely apply to a religion....morons.

yes, that's the way to educate! Don't bother with evidence, links, authors, etc.. just throw out some kind of inane statement and they'll all believe you.
