she is a black lab, chow mix and is an extreemly old dog (somewere between 18 and 22) and she is drinking 3 bowls(3 cups each.) of water, but only a little more than half a bowl of food. she is still at a healthy weight and has good form. it doesn't seem to be effecting her health. could this be a sign of something later to come?

I do not feed my dog crap. I take her to petsmart and she points out the food she wants. Then I keep her bowl filled all day long.

If she is also having to go to the bathroom a lot, she might have diabetes. It is one of the first symptoms that is really noticable. My dog had it, and we noticed this right away. Take her to the vet.

there is one in all those situation as water poisoning and it has got here about in the past. college studdents have died from it. There are situations the place they replace their beer keg chugging video games with water and the toddlers finally end up with water poisoning rather of beer. Its basically by using fact they ate up too lots abruptly. inspite of the shown fact that, in case you regulate the quantity of water you drink and in case you streach it out troughout the day you should be positive. in actuality my uncle is a physician and he stated a minimum of a gallon of water each and every day ( yet 8 bottles must be extra beneficial than a gallon) you should be positive, yet once you're relatively worried basically circulate on your wellbeing care expert, he will bee waiting to explaine extra effectual =) oh and don't difficulty, while you're basically eating the water it is going to no longer circulate on your lungs so which you wount drown(until you're respiration it in lol)

Excessive thirst can be a sign of diabetes, and yes, dogs can be diabetic. You should also be concerned that she is only eating 11/2 cups of food each day, a dog that size should be eating more than that. My suggestion is to take the dog to the vet.

If she is drinking a whole lot more than usual, and eating much less, this can be a sign that she is very sick. Excessive drinking can signal a number of illnesses, so she would need to be diagnosed by the vet.

whether it's normal or not would depend on wherer u stay (temp, weather, etc). drinking water however is normal i suppose (not illegal or unhealthy). if u r paranoid u can always visit the vet and spend some money :| .my dog's a spitz (miniature) and drinks around 4-5 bowls of water. he eats a lot however. your dog's appetite seems low for a lab.

Because of your dog's age, you should consult a vet. Once a dog gets to be that old, you may wish to go in for regular visits 2x a year anyway.

It is the start of summer and hot weather, so it may be nothing. Better safe than sorry.

You may want to have the vet check her for diabetes.

It could just be aging, my Cocker stopped being a 4 legged vacuum cleaner at 13, but she had quite a water intake. She did develop kidney disease at 16, and I had to have her put down.

If this is a change in what her 'norm' was then I would talk to your vet about it. My dogs drink a lot of water but that is normal for them ever since they were younger. But I think that it's based on what she is normally drinking. If it is significantly more then I would talk to your vet. GOOD LUCK!

water is healthy. Its summer soon, its getting hot. Whats the problem? Summer weather usually makes people drink more and eat less.
