No, you shouldn't be worried at all. I just finished reading a potty training book and it states that some children's fascination with such things as their feces is natural and they are simply curious. To them it is nothing different than any other part of thier body or anyhting that comes out of it. It may actually be a benefitting sign to you that he is old enough to start potty training a little bit. You should check the book out. It is most likely in your local library and is very short, interesting, easy to read, and easy to understand. It has helped me a lot and my 19 month old daughter is well on her way to using the potty although I really just began with her. OH, and good luck! I haven't gotten to that stage...but I'm sure it's a blast! lol, just kidding.

I think that's normal, especially in little boys. You need to start worrying if he continues doing this after he is potty trained and already in school.
You may replace this with allowing him to play in some mud, sand, or goo.

Your child shouldn't be sitting in a soiled diaper long enough to have time to play in it.

Try not to make a big deal about it or will will learn to do it for attention. Clean him up and get on with your day. Try to introduce the potty chair, maybe he will train early.

Well, that's just nasty. It is your job to take care of dirty diapers before he gets a chance to play in it! YUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
