It depends on the atheist. Some do positively assert God does not exist (a position called "strong atheism"), while some simply hold a lack of belief rather than an assertive disbelief ("weak atheism").
Note that this is not to be confused with agnosticism. Agnostics (using the original definition of the word) are those who make the assertion that the question will NEVER be resolved.

I consider God to be really very improbable, in fact so improbable that it's best to live with the assumption that there isn't one.
However, logic, history, and reality leads me to conclude that the biblical god is either egregiously misrepresented by a woefully inaccurate and violent book (the bible) or is outright impossible. There is no way the bible is anything but impossible.

Improbable, but that isn't quite strong enough a word. How about using the phrase "as probable as winning the state lottery 57 weeks in a row using random numbers picked from the Yellow Pages while simultaneously being struck by 15,000 bolts of lightning."

No there's not only one view allowed, you can believe whatever you like. Personally I believe that God is HIGHLY improbable (based on the evidence I see around me), but I can't prove with absolute certainty that God doesn't exist, and I don't think anyone else can either.

a true atheist doesn't have a belief in any higher power at all they only know were here to exist not to believe in a story written by man for his own self gratification that another being controls there existence so its not only impossible it is improbable that we are doomed to a life of torment or a life of perfection , the life we lead here is to be carried on in memory and/or literature to some atheist it is weak minded to have to believe in a god/higher power, to think we do not control are own destiny is to say we are unable to make decisions that is one fact i cannot disagree with. perfection or torment is all the mind of the beholder .

This being my opinion...if you believe God is improbable, that means God could be probable. That in my mnd is not an atheist, it's an agnostic. I believe that a god is impossible....because if he existed, it would be so far beyond reason as to be insane.

Improbable. Nothing is impossible but I still think the Christian God is near impossible but a creator is not impossible.

For all intents and purposes, I am an aetheist. However, I don't believe that the existence of God is impossible. I have seen to little of this universe to be declaring things impossible. Since aetheism doesn't really have any dogma per se (maybe science books), I think there is probably quite a bit of variety in our beliefs.
