I brush twice a day, and have no mouth odor. Since the mouthwash doesn't get below the adhesion of the gums then the effects seem to be very short lived.

It depends on the mouthwash. Listerine and the new Crest rinse both are germ killing rinses. Scope does not kill the bacteria. You have to use the rinse correctly. Rinse 30 secs. - 1 min. after brushing & flossing. Don't rinse it off after. Wait 30 minutes before eating or drinking. The bacteria are not permanently killed, but it lessens the count and their activity for a little while. I don't normally push rinsing on my patients unless there is a specific problem, and then it will not be forever. If your mouthwash is a prescription type, yes they do work, but sometimes cause staining, which polishes off at the next cleaning. If you are staining it shows where you are not brushing and flossing correctly, so it is good and bad that it does this. The stain will come off so it is worth using the rinse to clear up gum infections.

Ofcourse a mouthwash is good but before buying a mouthwash keep these things in ur mind ..
a mouthwash with Benzydamine hydrochloride is an anesthetic used for ulcers
a mouthwash with Chlorhexidine is an antiseptic
The above 2 mouthwashes are mainly for medicative purposes and should not be used for a long period e.g Chlorhexidine mouthwashes on long term usage cause staining of teeth.
The best thing is to use mouthwashes containing fluoride because they help in protecting you against cavities and if cavities are formed then they prevent in spreading, they also make your teeth stronger!!! The proper use of mouthwash is to rinse ur mouth for a min (not less) and then spit it out .. for the next half an hour dont eat or drink anythin and dont rinse your mouth with anythin ...

Mouthwash is and could basically be used as a backup to ur toothbrush :P in many circumstances, as long as you sweep two times an afternoon and floss as quickly as an afternoon, there is somewhat no desire for a mouthwash...the only mouthwash that has been approved by potential of the ADA is listerine, u can use it for a sparkling breath whether it somewhat hasn't shown that plenty important ends up in terms of killing micro organism and combating caries

A good mouthwash is very effective at killing germs in your mouth and on your teeth. If you have dental problems it is also good to brush your gums with it.

HELLO,
ONLY CERTAIN MOUTHWASHES ARE USEFUL. MAINLY, THE ALCOHOL IS WHAT KILLS THE BACTERIA OF THE MOUTH. THE EFFECTS ARE NOT LONG-LASTING AND HAVE TO REPEATED OFTEN.
SO IS IT A WASTE OF MONEY? IT DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU WANT FROM IT.
