For my first boy he was born in 2000 Chinese year of the dragon so my hubby and I got dragon symbols. With my 2nd boy, his name means star like so I am getting a bunch of stars and each w/a letter of his name.
So think about stuff like that are you into astrology maybe get his sign, but if your getting just a name there isn't much to do w/it but choose lettering. When I was getting my last tattoo a dad came in and had his kids sign their names and got them tattooed, but they were older 10ish. Just a few ideas google tattoo designs a million things will come up.

My husband has our son's name and date of birth tattooed on his back. Any ideas of yours will be unique to the fatherhod experience for him. If your son has just been born, congrats and I would suggest you talk to your tattoist about what is fashionable at this moment, as even if this dates, it will reflect the moment of the time. And when he grows up and takes the mickey, it will be like him comenting on your hair styles in photos, it will just show the style of the time he was born

My husband had my daugther's name tattooed on his upper right arm. It's a large round sun, but the 'flames' are multi-coloured and her name is in the center, but in unusual letters so you can read it, but you have to get close, otherwise it looks more like a funky design. It also has included her birthdate. He gets a lot of compliments on it and most people do not realize that it is a tribute to her so that makes it cooler, I think.

there are several different sites you can look at. flash or yahoo images. your best bet though is to have an idea of what your son means to you go to a tattoo artist not just a tattooist have them draw your image or translate the idea into a picture my son to me is strong so i got Leo the lion his zodiac that his dad hand drew with something as personal as your child make it meaningful.

Well if you are checking websites you aren't really going to get something different...

Usually people will tie it in with something else they like, or something they relate to the person whos name they are tattooing.
Many people will use angel wings, halos, fancy banners, etc to frame their little "angels" name. Those are probably the most common, but even then you can still make it special by changing it up a little bit.

But I have also seen people frame it with things they are interested in, or share with their kids. I have seen someone get a baseball bat with their kids name in it (something they share with their kid) and I have also seen one with sea turtles (something they like themselves) Going with something like this would most likely be more unique.

He could get it on his wrist and have your son write it like Tommy Lee. I think thats really sweet. Shoulder blade in nice scroll writing. You could find something that reminds him of his son (favorite toy/animal) and then add his name under it or above it.

There's a site that you can get a name translated into chinese or japanese. I can only seem to find one of the links right now. If I find the other I'll add to this post.
