I was petting her and I noticed she has a bald patch on her side. She also has black lumps all over in her left ear! Is this cancer? I love her so much and I don't want her to suffer. I brush her every day and she has special hair ball medecine she takes every other day. I'm wondering if she's allergic to the medecine. I see her scratching the ear with the lumps a lot and I have been doing my best to keep it clean. She got fleas a while back, I have no idea how because she is an indoor cat and has been all her life. She eats Purina adult hair ball formula and drinks plenty of water. I don't know why her hair is falling out! She also has very clean teeth and is generally very healthy. She isn't active and she loves to sleep as well. Please help me!!!

The lumps are on the inside of her ear. I just checked them and they are NOT ticks.

Also, she is treated VERY well, I promise you she is spoiled rotten. We used advantage for her fleas and got the hair ball treatment from wal-mart and read the ingredients very carefully before we bought it. We use nothing from pet stores and keep her well groomed. She gets lots of attention every day so I notice the slightest change in her. She is a very healthy and loved cat.

I really hope you will take your beloved cat to a vet and have him or her treat her. She needs a doctor to look at what is wrong.

OK first of all, indoor cats still get fleas and therefore should be treated regularly. Fleas enter houses - especially if there are pets inside. This is how your cat got fleas before.

There are a number of possible causes for this bald patch and the lumps. I really think you should take her to a vet to find out the cause - it could be fleas, but even if it isn't you should be treating - using a veterinary product, not a pet shop thing.

Cats can get hormone imbalances when they are older (male and female, neutered and otherwise). There are meds that can control this. You also need to ask the vet if the hair ball medicine could be causing a reaction - where did you get this stuff from? She could also have ear mites, it does sound quite like this - it doesn't really sound like skin cancer which usually starts at the edge of the ear, with the skin turning pinkish and gradually dying off. Stronghold/Revolution spot-on treats both fleas and ear mites.

There are quite a few possibilities to address here, so a vet visit is definitely in order!

You may need to check and see if those little "black lumps" are ticks. If they are they will cause her to scratch a lot because they itch (in the same way as fleas). You should take her to a vet is you aren't really sure about what is wrong!

You do not say if the black lumps are inside or outside of the eat. If they are on the inside, you cat has ear mites and needs medication to get rid of them. I would ask for Revolution at the vet and use it for 60 days to get rid of them. The oily drops that they give you to put in their ears do not work very well. I know that your vet will suggest the oily drops, that is why I am advising in advance. If the black lumps are on the outside of the ear, and you say that she is losing fur, they are probably mange mites. Please ask for same treatment for that.

Try going to the vet, that should help. None of my cats ever had something like that happen to them so I can't help you much, sorry!
