So many creationists make the claim that something can't come from nothing. Well let me ask you this. How do you know? No one has ever observed nothing. Sure we have seen empty space, but empty space is still existence, therefore empty space is still something. No one has ever observed nothing because nothing only exists outside of the realm of existence. We are part of existence and we do not have the technology to observe or explore the nothingness that may or may not surround our existence. There is no way you can possible know the scientific properties of nothingness or what nothingness is capable of. So how can you possibly know that something can’t come from nothing?

Science does not make this claim ryan.

I have taken Thermodynamics 1 and 2. Thermodynamics deals with the properties of existence. Thermodynamics says nothing about non-existence.

Actually, Louis Pasteur determined that organisms do not spontaneously generate back in 1862.
And if you're going to propose something as spacey as this, how is God an unlikely concept to you?
And we may not be able to examine the scientific properties of nothingness (though I would think they would be consistent with... nothingness... ) but we can examine the scientific properties of existence, as we exist. So let's use a little common logic here: We exist. What made it so? How did it happen? What accounts for diversity of life, if we all started out as random strands of DNA floating around in the same primordial ooze?
God may not be "necessary," as you put it, using the logic you're using. But He sure makes a lot more sense.

There is a misunderstanding here. science never claims that there was ever a point in the history of the universee where 'nothing' existed. prior to the big bang all the material of the univers was condensed into a ball of gas and energy. Scientists have not yet figured out why, but this ball of energy and matter and gas exploded spreading its contents all around the universe.
After that gravity took over and started pulling things together into clumps that later became galaxies, stars and planets. the effect of this gravity can still be seen as galaxies collide with each other.
As for how life originated on earth, scientists have yet to figure that out, however one likely hypothesis is that micro-organisms were deposited here from meteorites, they then evolved into life as we know it. The study of early life on earth is still young, but new breakthroughs are being made almost daily. For scientists there is no shame or danger in saying 'we don;t know yet, but we'll find out soon.'
the creationist claim that 'something can't come from nothing' is at best a disingenuous attack on science, and at worst a gross misunderstanding of evolution. Creationists also overlook the most glaring flaw of that argument which is, if everything absolutely has to come from something, where does god come from?
hope I helped.

^^ science doesnt know the properties of non-existence... and probably never will...
good point. Creationists try to prove that god exists by claiming that everything has to have a creator since nothing can spring up from non existence, but they don't know the properties of non-existence. You ever think that the universe would make more sense if nothing existed?

It's called ... logic! Science is based upon it. Which is why science demands that every existing thing must have had an origin, and that every event that occurs - including the origins of existing things - must have had a cause. "Nothing" obviously cannot be the cause of "something". Simple logic.

Oh oh oh...I know the answer to this one.
Science tells us that something can't come from nothing.
*EDIT*
First Law of Thermodynamics: Energy can be changed from one form to another, but it cannot be created or destroyed. The total amount of energy and matter in the Universe remains constant, merely changing from one form to another. The First Law of Thermodynamics (Conservation) states that energy is always conserved, it cannot be created or destroyed. In essence, energy can be converted from one form into another.
This states, that something cannot come from nothing. It can change forms, but it cannot come from nothing.
*EDIT AGAIN*
But, nothing is non-existence. To say anything otherwise is to just look foolish.
