I've got a pretty schnazzy pc and monitor but when i play DVD's on it, the picture quality is rubbish compared to a TV. I am presuming it is my DVD player (the one in my PC) that is just not as good as a normal one (ie- a panasonic in the livingroom). Can I attach my TFT monitor to a seperate DVD player and still get good quality? the monitor is a HP 19" widescreen and retailed at £160. The monitor has got two ports round the back of the monitor (VGA and DVI).
Thank you for any help!

This is the natural difference between a piece of kit designed to do one job very well (your Pansonic DVD player) and a piece of kit designed to do many jobs in an acceptable fashion (the DVD drive in your PC).

The picture from your Panasonic will be better than your PC - it will be better than any PC, because it's designed to do nothing but play DVDs, so all the components are optimised to do just that.

A DVD drive in a PC is a 'Jack of all trades and master of none'. Your PC isn't at fault; PCs just aren't designed to get the best out of a DVD disc.

It's probably the video card in your PC that is the problem, not the monitor. Either that or your DVD playback software.

Try playing a DVD with VLC (Google it, it's free).

If it's still rubbish then it's your video chipset.

Monitor to DVD player? No.

Additional:

Windows Media Player doesn't come with a DVD codec by default. There must be other DVD playback software installed.

No-one said your video card was rubbish. LEARN TO READ. It meant "if your DVD playback is still rubbish..."
ffs.
