Usually your recommended daily dose of Tylenol is 1500mg you probably took 2000mg if they are the 500mg doses. But I don't think that it will hurt you, I just wouldn't take anymore for the rest of the day.

Extra Strength Tylenol has 500mg / tablet. So, you got 2000mg or 2 Grams in a single dose.

I wouldn't be too worried about a one time dose of 2000mg.

However, you should NOT take more than 4000mg (4Gm) in a 24 hour period. To do so can cause liver damage long term.

So lay off the Tylenol for the next 10-12 hours before your next dose.

Also - be sure and check the ingredients in any other over-the-counter(OTC) medications you might be taking for your flu symptoms. Many OTC multi-ingredient cough / cold / flu medications contain Acetaminophen as one of the ingredients.

Acetaminophen is the generic name of Tylenol and is the SAME THING.

So you must add up the mgs of Extra Strength Tylenol + any other mg of Acetaminophen in anything else you take and take the total into account when looking at the 4000mg / day guideline.

With that said - ALWAYS only use the minimum amount needed to gain you relief. More is not always better. Also, use it for the shortest amount of time you need to get over your flu. The potential damage from Tylenol is a cumulative effect - so high doses over a long period of time = greater risk of liver trouble. High dose for 1-2 days / not likely a big deal, but don't go over the 4 Gm max per 24 hours.

If you have a history of liver or kidney problems - then get with your MD for an appropriate dose. Tylenol (as most other meds) will require a dosage adjustment if you have liver or kidney problems.

Hope you get to feeling better.

It probably wan't good to take that many- try taking ibuprophen interchangably with tylenol next time. Take tylenol first, then a few hours lter take ibuprophen, then a few hours later take tylenol- Don't exceed the amount of medicine printed on the lable in one day - they are there for a good reason.

You probably should have taken three to begin with, but the two pill suggestion is for a person of 135-150 pounds, so you will be fine. I always take three or four, that is the only way that I can get it to work. Your liver might have to do a little over time, but if you are healthy you will be fine.

It has been proven that Tylenol CAN produce liver problems if taken too much, however, one double dosage is not going to hurt you. The effects of tylenol on the liver are cumulative over a long period of time, made worse if you drink alcohol. I would suggest sticking to the label in the future but I wouldn't sweat a one time overdosage.

Just take 2 next time and you can take it every 4 hours as needed. You'll be fine, but don't take more than 2 . Too much Tylenol can affect the liver.

Yes you took too many.
The maximun recommeded dosage of tylenol in 24 hours is 4 grams. That would be 1000mg every 6 hours. (two tablets)

Doing this one time will probably cause no lasting problems, but It is not recommended.

Try alternating tylenol and ibuprophen.

It won't kill you, but its good to eat something before you take that many to avoid stomach problems. Just the regular recommended dose of Tylenol doesn't help me either. If you start to feel dizzy, just ease up on the dose next time. Feel better!

Yes, but just drink lots of water to flush it out of your system. Next time only take two or try liquid advil since it's easier on the stomach. Get well soon.
